W7 Pro 64-bit system repair disc
I have a Dell XPS 8100. I created a system repair disc right after getting the PC in November. I just tested the disc and it hangs on the light blue screen with error 0x4001100200001012. I've read about this issue with Dell PCs going back several years. Since I had some bad memory stick(s) I created another disc and it failed with the same error.
I've read that using the Dell Recovery Disc(if you paid for one) will allow you to get to the same system recovery menu. I booted the Dell Recovery Disc and got two optons, reinstall or repair. I stopped right there but if repair is selected, do you get the same system recovery menu as the Windows created system repair disc?
I'm surprised that Dell hasn't fixed this problem that goes back years! Tech Support knew nothing about this issue but said that they are for hardware problems and this was a software problem.
There's another option of using a Windows Recovery Disc in the form of a ISO image but several sites claim to have the image, it seems that Microsoft must have complained because the file is nolonger available.

You have to follow the instructions in Help. The Repair option is only for the Windows Operating Disk, not the System Image This is from the instructions:
Click Repair your computer. This step only applies if you are using a Windows installation disc.
Booting to the system image disk is only for those cases where you cannot start Windows. Start the recovery options by using Control Panel, Recovery, Advanced. The complete instructions are available if you search Help for "system image." There are several methods of recovery and you need to read all of them. There are links in the Help file to access all the options.

So, what I read about the Dell Recovery Disc giving one the same options as the Windows Repair Disc is incorrect. If one has a Dell, you must have some other means to restore an image since one can't use the Windows Repair Disc. Why hasn't Dell addressed this problem that's been going on for so long??

Have you tried pressing F8 when you see the dell splash screen, and select Repair your computer. Also you can download Dell Data Safe backup HERE.

I know about that option but I'm concerned that I can't use the built in W7 option to possibly restore a image because the Windows Repair Disc doesn't work on a Dell PC. I use a Paragon Software Backup programs but I'm wondering now if that's the reason that their program generated recovery disc didn't work either on one of their FREE programs? On their paid for programs they offer a ISO image based on WinPE which works, so I can restore even if my PC doesn't boot up.
I just happened to try the Windows Repair Disc yesterday for the first time.

Here's a solution that works. A W7 64-bit recovery disc uTorrent download from http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/windows-7-system-repair-discs/. Since I've never seen what the W7 created repair disc is supposed to do, I don't know if this ISO image download is any different but why would there be a need for this if one could create one on their own??
