Will an upgrade in ram memory help my dell 4400 function better as a server

I have a 2 dell 4400's that work as servers as well as workstations.  They both have 256mb of ram would an increase in the amount of ram memory make them function better.  The total network is ten PC's.

If I understand you correctly, you only have 256 mb on your system.  If you are running windows xp, this operating system needs 512 mb to run well and you will see a noticeable difference.  As far as running the system as a server with more ram,  I cannot answer that on but, other's in the know will assist you.

I'm running windows 2000 pro operating system.  Does this impact ram requirements versus running XP?

I'm still waiting to hear from someone that could tell me if they think this will improve my performance.  Someone please reply.

nickmars,

Not really. I consider 512K a minimum for a Win2K workstation. For a Win2K pro system being operated as a server, that's still the minimum I'd suggest. Note that there's a limit of ten concurrent client connections to a Win2K workstation, so the fact that you're not running Win2K server on the machine is somewhat self-limiting. Server configurations mainly use more memory for disk buffering.
