Can you try the update to 5.1?   4.4>5.1 is supported.

If it fails again, please attach the upgrade log.

Please make sure you have a snapshot/backup to fall back to should it fail.

You should be able to see the log in the folder where your %TEMP% variable points to

I removed some sections of the log you posted as it had some possibly sensitive information in it.

I see the following in the log (in Red)

Can you check for the presence of this file?

Also, I have seen very odd behavior in the past when security tools/Antivirus are running.   Can  you check those logs or try the install with it disabled?

The original name the website gave it to me WMS_5.1.0.351.exe

Hmm.  I wanted to make sure you were running the WMS installer and not the repo installer, but that looks right.

I am afraid I don't know what is going on.   Have you looked at the Antivirus/security tools logs or tried disabling them?

I dont know how many thin clients you have or what type but I have seen many customers just install on a new server, setup their policies again and use the policy on the old server to move them to the new server.

Since WMS free does not come with support, I am not sure what else I can suggest.

@DELL-Scott H cold you indicate the policy to move the devices for the new server? do you have any articles about that?

I am sorry but I do not.

Assuming you're devices are ThinOS9 or above, Take a look at the Services>WMS Settings for a group.

  • Enable Advanced Configuration
  • Use the Server field to specify the new server, and the group prefix and token to specify the new group.

Test on a small group of devices first of course.

Using this you can "Instruct" a group of devices to move to a new server, or even the cloud hosted if you purchase Pro.

@DELL-Scott H

Thanks for the tip! I didn’t know you could manage group moves like that through WMS Settings. Definitely going to try this on a small batch first. Super helpful!
