It seems it CAN Restore the INITIAL OS from the ORIGINAL C: drive back to the C: partition? Not what you want.

I have done it before, on an XPS8500 I had a mechanic hard drive for booting. I was using Acronis True Image at the time and had a full (all partitions on the C: drive) back-up. I then took left the hard drive in and installed the SSD. Booted to the Acronis USB (or CD/DVD) boot drive and RESTORED C: to the SSD. I did have to change BIOS to boot from that drive though.

There are other programs one can use as well, some free, some purchased.

Google "how to copy the boot drive to a bootable SSD" or "How to copy the boot drive to a bootable ssd windows"and you'll have plenty of information. It does mention Macrium Reflect, but it has dropped having a FREE version, but probably on the web you could find a copy, but it might not work well on Win11?

1. On boot, hold the F12.
2. In the One-Time Boot Settings menu, click SupportAssist OS Recovery.
3. Click Back Up Files / Disk Cloning.
4. Select Disk Cloning and then click Next.
