Dell BT mouse does not show in BT device

Mouse,Wireless,5BTN,Bluetooth,Black,Windows Vista Os.

this is a legacy Dell BT mouse,

I think this mouse worked before w an old BT USB receiver which is misplaced now

now I can not find it in BT device list when I tried to pair w PC

using a new TP link BT USB receiver

I got good AA batteries in the mouse

it turns on with red light

I press the small BT button at bottom of mouse supposedly meant to try pairing?

how to tell if mouse is working or not or BT tech is too old?

I just tested it with a Dell latitude E7250.  It showed up in BT device and paired.  Right after pairing the blue led on mouse lit up then dimed.  but the mouse works.

so the new TP link BT UB500 receiver BT 5.3 may be too new for the old Dell mouse.

I did not know BT is not backward unfriendly.

Read the reviews to see if it may help with pairing, press and hold the bluetooth button until recognized by PC/laptop.  May need to enter default pin (usually 0000).

I see this BT mouse was originally sold w Dell BT receiver.  I wonder whether the old received works with this mouse but the newer one does not.

if you read they all say BT version is backward compatible.

practice not necessarily holds.

while iPhone finds an old BT speaker, the new TP link BT USB simply does not.  whatever the theory goes, in practice the new BT driver may not work for old BT device.
