Dell XPS 8300 stuck and won't boot past BIOS logo when upgrading the graphics card
The original graphics card that came with this machine died years ago. I swapped it with a Nvidia Quadro 410 (512MB) and that works.
I want to use a Nvidia Quadro K4200 I now have but the PC gets stuck at the Dell logo screen and no keyboard input works. The BIOS is on the A06 driver (latest).
How do I find out what cards are compatible with this old motherboard? If the K4200 isn't, then I can find something else that is.
If anyone knows how to fix the issue, that be even better.

Marking as resolved. After further research, I've confirmed the card I have is not hybrid bios/UEFI and thus not compatible with Dell XP3 8300.
For anyone else coming across this, ensure you verify this yourself prior to purchasing. Check part numbers as smallest of revisions might mean the card is not as advertised and/or custom OEM or has special firmware. The years in question was transition period and compatibility was more of any issue I'd say.

It is probably due to CMOs corruption of legacy 8300. First thing to try is replacing CMOs battery w a new battery followed by clear CMOs via RTCRST jumper.

it is not because some old video cards not c/w 8300. It is b/c 8300 CMOs got stuck in old mental state unable to adjust to newly seen old card. A CMOs refresh will most likely do the trick.

@redxps630 I tried that already and it didn't work. If it only it was that simple.
Internet is full of posts of this motherboard not working/stuck at Dell logo for cards not issued by Dell.

Rarely can you use a UEFI-class video-card in a Legacy-BIOS (non-UEFI) computer (or vice-versa) . During the transition, some AMD video-cards had a dip-switch on them.
That is one of the reasons why it's better if all the components in a computer are from similar time-frame.

OP has been asking same question on tomshw and Reddit. A tom response was “Modern cards like the K4200 will only be detected on a UEFI bios.”
We know there is evidence of K4200 c/w XPS 8500
we know older Quadro such as 4000/5000 both c/w 8300 through user benchmark evidence

Userbenchmark shows compatible accessories. When choosing a GPU, check it's wattage to make sure your PSU can power it.

This will almost certainly be the issue, but, when I checked Google before purchasing, I am almost certain I found references that the K4200 has dual boot VBIOS and UEFI.

Yes, I've been posting because I'm curious why the card has not worked, and no one has been able to give a definitive answer.
Where? I was looking for this confirmation, but as you link with UB, I cannot see the K4200.
I thought I'd consult AI, and it states (if correct), that the K4200 had various versions. Some came BIOS, some UEFI, and some dual. Be interesting to confirm that and if it's a firmware change or hardware limitation.
