how to tell XPS 720 from 710 or 700
old XPS service tag often expired on Dell support
if you can look at motherboard DP/N, that is one sure way to tell which XPS 700 it is.
another way is to look at front panel ribbon cable
if it is 28 pin: 720
if it is 40 pin: 700 or 710.
Pro tip: XPS 700/710 rear IO panel has a serial port, XPS 720 rear IO panel has no serial port.
to upgrade from 700 to 720, both front panel board and motherboard need to be changed.
case is the same. red, black, or jet black (H2C)

since there is no XPS 730X clear view side panel picture posted, here is a genuine pic depicting small foam block as switch for theater lighting

XPS 720 black (ebony piano) side panel is not anodized but simply painted black on the outside. the inner side is unpainted aluminum.

it is easy to tell XPS 730(X) from 720.
720 case sports X-window side panel, the silver one can fit 730/730X silver.
there is no true black 730(X).
730X side panel has a small black foam square block (about 10x10 mm) as a switch to turn off theater light when panel is closed.
720/730 side panel do not have this foam block.
