Move m.2 nvme ssd from dead XPS 8900 to good XPS 8900

My older Windows 10 XPS 8900 died on me recently (MBO or CPU). Bought a used, working 8900 from EBay, complete with SATA SSD and Windows 11.

Most of my programs are on the old 8900 m.2 nvme ssd.

If I move the m.2 nvme ssd to the working 8900, what steps do I take to make the 8900 boot from the m.2 nvme ssd?

Thanks

First remove sata ssd running Win 11 from new 8900, next install nvme ssd in new 8900. Try to see if it boots. If old and new 8900 have same bios sata operation setting, either AHCI or legacy, new 8900 would boot smoothly from old ssd. If sata operation setting is different between the two 8900, it will give error. In that case need to enter new 8900 bios to change sata operation to the same as old 8900.

8900's are not W11 compatible, so I don't know what was done or it would transfer over and if it does work, you'd be running W10...

Might be better to get a holder for the M.2 from the old PC and then connect it to the new one. Transfer via Windows Explorer over to the new P:C.

I moved the M.2 SSD card from the old 8900, installed it in new 8900. Unplugged SATA SSD in new 8900. Booted into Windows 10 no problem.

    Thanks for all your suggestions.

yes you can not install Win 11 on a 8900 (not officially) but Win 11 installed elsewhere does not stop itself from running in 8900 after transplant.  there is no rejection.  Install and run are different processes.
