USB 3 type A port connect to non-Dell board
Swapping a HP 580 board in XPS8700 case
580 has two 20-1 USB 3 headers one for type A the other for type C.
the type A header is too far from 8700 case USB 3 connector
So
I have to use the 20-1 blue header FUSB 1 for USB C port. I connected the type A port to the header but when I plug in flash drive nothing is detected. I am puzzled and I may speculate that these look alike 20-1 headers are not all the same?
I moved the board back to HP case, both type A and type C ports verified working
I doubt the 8700 case type A front panel is broken. Case in very good condition and the connector just a passive relay.

According to HP community, Odense2-K motherboards used non-standard USB3 headers. More info can be viewed at this thread https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/USB3-0-pinout-moved-mobo-to-new-case/td-p/6448738

wow. Just like lenovo. these prebuilt use standard appearing 20-1 header but alter pinout.
reminds me of XPS 8930 board having two 20-1 header and at least one of which has proprietary pinout that needs to be jumped to prevent error.
why these company make life hard for users.
