XPS 8930 browser/internet issues

My XPS 8930 only 1 year old and it started acting up since December 2018. (My 2011 XPS laptop survived 9 years)

Until now I am giving up on using this PC since the problems with browser and internet issues:

-Google chrome keep showing Aw snap every few minutes

-Failed to download file from internet (happened randomly)

-Happened with all browser

-Other devices in the same network are working fine

I am using Technical support from Dell since Jul 11 and several technicians are doing the same things over and over but the problem still persists.

Reinstalled the OS using Dell media usb but no helps.

Checked hardware problem in Bios, support assist software ( no errors)

Please advise.

Thank you

  • What other browser(s) did you try?
  • Are you using WiFi or is the PC hardwired to your router?
  • What anti-malware app are you using on this PC? Does it need to be reinstalled?

Aw Snap is a very common Chrome error and here are some recommendations to fix it:

  1. Try incognito mode
  2. Clear your browsing data of Chrome
  3. Disable Chrome extensions
  4. Restart your device
  5. Check for malware or viruses
  6. Check your security software
  7. Reinstall Chrome
  8. Try creating a new user account on this PC and see if the problem happens while using the new user account

And this too:

  1. Open Chrome
  2. At the top right, click More Settings
  3. At the bottom, click Advanced
  4. Under “Reset and clean up,” click Clean up computer
  5. Click Find
  6. If you're asked to remove unwanted software, click Remove
You may be asked to reboot your computer

  • What other browser(s) did you try? Google Chrome, IE, Edge, FireFox
  • Are you using WiFi or is the PC hardwired to your router? Wifi, and other devices in the same network working are working fine
  • What anti-malware app are you using on this PC? Does it need to be reinstalled? I am using windows defenders but I made clean install for OS (reset to factory using Dell media usb)

  2. Clear your browsing data of Chrome (checked)
  3. Disable Chrome extensions (checked)
  4. Restart your device (checked)
  5. Check for malware or viruses (checked)

  8. Try creating a new user account on this PC and see if the problem happens while using the new user account ( I will try this)

And this too:

  2. At the top right, click More Settings
  3. At the bottom, click Advanced
  4. Under “Reset and clean up,” click Clean up computer (checked, also turned off hardware acceleration)

I was in hope reinstall OS/reset to factory state will help me resolve this issue. But its not.

And Dellsupport team cant resolve it for a month already

This could be a bug with intel chipset : https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/10137754?hl=en

Please advise

Apologies for this issue that has been going on for so long.

I have emailed the engineers for some information to help resolve this issue. Once I get a response I will reply back to you.

BTW: Go to the Add/Remove Apps screen in Win 10. If you have SmartByte software installed, uninstall it or at least disable it.

And you have the latest WiFi drivers for your specific WiFi card in the XPS 8930?

Do you have the latest Intel chipset drivers for the XPS 8930?

Intel Management Engine Interface Drive

Intel Chipset Device Software Driver

It it's a bug, there isn't much we can do here to help you here. Google and Intel will have to sort it out.

Did you try installing the 32-bit version of Chrome which one of those threads says isn't affected by this problem?

windows 10 64bit,?  1903?version

Chrome browers fails, and all others.

why not just plug it in with wired Ethernet, just to see if that works perfect, its only 5 minutes work to do that.

wifi can fail at any time even bad neighbors.  ok, its a shared resource and channels,.but  you said wifi in home work to same SSID.

if that works then fix the wifi in the failing PC...  focus on that.

solutions , correct wifi driver,

or up grade the wifi card. PCI-e, endless choices. disable what you nave now, to prove this works.

or use USB WIFI dongle. even more easy.

lots of cures try one, and if something works it's huge clue as to what is wrong.

I understand that we need to isolate the issue but my PC is too far from the router.

Thank you for your suggestion, per your advise I just bought a long ethernet cable, will see if this works

BobaT09,

I have no information. Can you move the router closer to your computer?  How far away is the computer from the router?

Did you ever check to see if SmartByte software is installed on this XPS 8930 like I suggested above?

Uninstall it, if it's installed.

BobaT09,

Did moving the router help resolve the issue?

In case you missed it, BobaT09 said on 8/19 that "The problem still there even with Ethernet cable."

you said other things work, but how much testing did you do on other things. (not this PC)

it is intermittent,

why not install firefox v67+  and when it installs do not let it TAKE settings from chrome, edge and IE11.

let install clean,,  then test with firefox.  OK>?

on the Ethernet cable is best (wifi can get jammed)

the problem is only networking failures.

the OS runs great, and does not stall or freeze or act up.

Just the internet.  (remove most things in the startup box yet, ask how)

some bad things can be in that BOX, that are called auto-updates,  the interfere with your internet usage.

all you really need there is the windows listed, Defender. (control + alt + del) then task-manager, and then tab START UP.

Do all these OTHER devices really work? fully?

ok  so he has a router , wifi and Ethernet.

  1. so does the home internet connection fail  on other devices?
  2. Other PCs of any kind (even portable PC of any kind?)
  3. streammingg  movies on TV,  wifi way or Ethernet way?  ( s t r e a m ing is bad word here, WOW!)
  4. smart cell phones in home , using its browsers.

even your ISP may have problems. (and random!)

using another PC , of any kind run the w w w, speed test yet>?

depends on what country you are in , what speed test  to run. Unknown.

even running OTHER PC while YOUR PC fails, now we have a better clue !
