XPS 8940, driver compatibility

Looking for drivers at the dell support site my system is recognized and I am able to download the latest drivers for my dell xps 8940

But trying to install some of them I get an error that the drivers are not compatible.

Why?

@uwe-dembski The drivers may not be compatible because you don't have the hardware or for some reason the driver does not apply to your system. There are two things you should do, first, you should enter your Service Tag when looking for drivers, and second, you should click on the 'View full driver details' link and look at the 'Compatible Systems', 'Supported Operating Systems', and 'Applies to" links.

@uwe-dembski  Even when you use your Service Tag, be sure to move the little slider to the right so it only shows the drivers for your specific PC.

I did the above mentioned steps.

The drivers are

Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Application_MC2YM_WIN64_18.1.1011.0_A12_01.EXE

Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Application_MC2YM_WIN64_18.1.1011.0_A12

@uwe-dembski  The driver page says it's Intel Rapid Storage Technology application  18.1.1011.0, A12 but the actual file name to be downloaded is A12_01.EXE. So it may only be one driver that's a problem.

Download it again and try installing again. This time, right-click the downloaded file name and Run as administrator.

FWIW, Intel driver updates sometimes give an error message when the version being installed is the same version as the one that's already running, rather than saying "version already installed" or something similar. Don't know if that's the issue here...

But this is exactly what i asked:

Why are those drivers offered, when they are not compatible with my system?

@uwe-dembski  - I wonder if the problem is the language since you're using German:

@uwe-dembski  - Because it was probably assumed...

Have you tried downloading and installing that same update from Dell's German support page for XPS 8940? CAVEAT: I have no idea if that will make any difference.

I pinged my Dell tech contacts and provided the link to this thread.  So they should look into it...

USA drivers wont install on German OS. The EU has rules about specific things and so the driver enforces standards like ROHS and Privacy etc differently than here.

Its the same principle as videos that say not allowed to play in your country.

@uwe-dembski

What happens if you extract this driver's files into a folder when you launch it and do a manual install, instead of just clicking the button to do an automatic install? Do you get the same error message, or something different?

You may have to wait until Dell tech support sorts this out since the download from the German site has this problem. They are aware and I'll let you know if I hear anything directly. In meanwhile, just watch the Support page for a new updated (fixed) version of this driver
