Dell Laptop Model Numbers - Explanation
Hello -
I´ve wondered this ever since I bought my Dell, and today I´ve decided to ask....
When I shopped for, and bought, my Dell laptop, I ultimately decided to buy a New Dell Inspiron 14 7000. I get that the 14 indicates that it is a 14-inch screen, and that the 7000 is the series (you can choose from a 3000 series, 5000 series, or a 7000 series).
When my New Dell Inspiron 14 7000 arrived, I learned that in addition to it being a 7000 series, there was a more specific number: 7400. So, it appears that I have a New Dell Inspiron 14 7000 (7400).
Question 1: How could I have known, prior to my purchase, that my Dell would be a 7400 model?
Example:
I am now shopping for an XPS laptop. I have picked out the one that I want. Here is the link:
Portátiles XPS y 2 en 1 PCs | Dell España
All it says is that it is a New XPS 13. There is no four-digit model number indicated (that I can find).
Question 2: How can I find out what the 4-digit model number is for this particular laptop?
Question 3: Can someone please explain to me how to decipher what the four-digit model number means? I am guessing that each digit in the four-digit model number indicates some specific information.
Thank you all for your time.
Tiny

Click on the link and look at the page header bar - you'll see the 9310 (this is the current latest 13" XPS model).

I found one answer: Looking at the laptop you are interested in, there is a "code number" which begins with "cn" followed by 5 digits.
Apparently the first 4 of the 5 digits is the model number.
The XPS that I was looking at is a model number 9322.

Look at the URL for your link - it's an XPS 9310.
There's little consistency to the model numbers -- though for now, the XPS 9300 was succeeded by the 9310, just as others have incremented UP. It's equally true that some older XPS models like the 9380 were succeeded by the 7390, etc. In other words - good luck figuring out the way in which the four digit models are designated.
Some models are reseller-specific as well.

Thank you for the reply.
As I understand your reply, you are saying that the URL somehow someway contains information that indicates that the laptop is a model XPS 9310.
This is the URL for the laptop that I am looking at (minus the dell.com/ at the beginning)
http://es-es/shop/port%C3%A1tiles-de-dell/sr/laptops/xps-laptops/port%C3%A1til?appliedRefinements=31461,15674,6084,6096,22135
Just looking at the URL, as I see it, there is no indication that the laptop is model 9310, unless I am missing something?

I figured out what you were telling me. After I click on the link that I posted, and it has opened, if I click where is says XPS 13, then *that* URL that opens contains 9310. Thank you very much. Very helpful.
