Dell logo corruption at boot

Anyone else seeing corruption of the Dell logo at boot time? This happens consistently on my XPS 7390 2-in-1, despite BIOS updates, etc. I can't link any issues to it, but...it's not exactly confidence-building...

Chambers Creek,

How does the system look once it has booted into Windows? Did you recently do a bios update?

System shows no related issues once booted (that I'm aware of). I recently (within the last couple of weeks) did a BIOS update, but this was happening both before and after the update.

Chambers Creek,

BIOS Recovery Procedure
The XPS 7390 2-in-1 BIOS can be recovered with the following steps
Follow the steps below.
Description
1 Verify that the device is powered OFF and disconnect the AC adapter or power source.
2 Press and hold the + on the keyboard.
3 Plug in the AC adapter or power source to the device.
4 Release the + on the keyboard.
5 On the BIOS Recovery screen, select Reset NVRAM (if available) and press the Enter key.
6 Select Disabled and press the Enter key if you wish to save the current BIOS settings.
7 Select Recover BIOS and press the Enter key to start the recovery process.
The system will boot a couple of times.

As I mentioned above, this logo corruption was happening before and after the last BIOS update. Is there a reason to believe that going through the recovery procedure will make a difference?

Chambers Creek,

Good Information!! Let's run the ePSA diags ePSA with extended memory diags on the hardware to see if anything shows up as faulty. To run the diags follow the information below. Post back the results.

Running the ePSA diagnostics
Steps
  1. Turn on your computer.
  2. As the computer boots, press the F12 key as the Dell logo appears.
  3. On the boot menu screen, select the Diagnostics option.
  4. Click the arrow at the bottom left corner.
    Diagnostics front page is displayed.
  5. Click the arrow in the lower-right corner to go to the page listing.
    The items detected are listed.
  6. To run a diagnostic test on a specific device, press Esc and click Yes to stop the diagnostic test.
  7. Select the device from the left pane and click Run Tests.
  8. If there are any issues, error codes are displayed.
Note the error code and validation number and contact Dell.

"Reset NVRAM" was not available at the BIOS recovery screen. Only:

- Recover the BIOS (using the currently-flashed BIOS)
- Rollback to the previous BIOS
- Load BIOS defaults

Additional piece of info -- this logo corruption happens with an external monitor. When booting to the laptop only, sometimes there's no corruption, and sometimes a square block appears over most of the logo.

The monitor in question (attached via Lightning port) works fine with other laptops. Possibly this is simply another flavor of some of the posts noting issues with display resolution and such via Lightning connections.

System passes all tests (in extended mode) for memory, graphics adapter, USB devices, display.

Chambers Creek,

Thank you for running the diags and letting me know the outcome. I am going to be talking to an engineer about this issue. I will reply back as soon as I hear from them.

Chambers Creek,

Checking to see if the issue was resolved, I sent you a private message requesting information if it has not been resolved. Let us know.

I have not received any private messages since 4/28, and was told that someone would be contacting me. No, the problem has not been resolved. It's not a showstopper -- just looks ugly. Again, since it happens with an external monitor but not the internal one (I think), it's probably another display issue with the Lightning interface.

Hi!

I know this is an old topic, but I have the same issue.
Only for me it happens on the screen of the laptop itself.

Btw: I just bought the laptop 3 days ago (XPS 15 9520).

Greetings,

Thomas

Mine did finally go away -- assuming from a BIOS update.

This finally went away at some point, presumably with a BIOS update.
