My XPS 15 9570 overhaul

When I got this XPS 15 9570 it was trashed petty bad, so far I have installed a key keyboard, SSD and even a new power brick the original one was toast. Still waiting on an AX210 card to overcome bluetooth issues and audio issues. An available BE200 card is keyed different and does not fit the M.2 WiFi slot.

The keyboard was fun forcing me to yank the system board to get at it. Cleaned the dust while I was there and the multilingual keyboard seems to be working but Windows 11 has some quirks to use the keyboard.

I installed a WD blue SN580 2TB SSD which is fast and spacious and Windows 11 seems to be ok but some BSOD problems are popping up. Not sure what is up about that yet but I have reported it to Microsoft.

My CPU is an i7-8750H (6 cores 12 threads) and I have 32GB DDR4 installed and Windows 11 loads real fast.

For some reason Windows 11 throws Critical Process Died and DPS Watchdog BSOD crashes,. I have reported this to Microsoft so that they can investigate the problem. The Support Assistant found drivers which helps as nothing was on Windows update.

The OEM Wi-Fi card has weak Bluetooth performance. The speakers however work but one I get my AX210 card installed I am hoping to be able to use earbuds and have better audio etc.

Careful analysis of the system board show it is undamaged and all ports and functions are working. The WD SN580 SSD is very fast so the machine boots up really fast.

Press Win+R and mdsched which will reboot and run the memory check and this came up clean with a basic test.

Curiously on battery the machine works better than with the power brick, makes me wonder of there is an issue

Finally broke out a multimeter and the PSU voltage is fine but the current is no good and I am using a 90W brick until I get a new one come in

The 130W unit current is not stable

Testing more adapters, a Dell 130W (HA130PM130) came up in the BIOS as unknown while a cheap made in China replacement is seen as 130W. Dell 130W unable to charge battery while the replacement can charge the battery.

I have to boot the machine using the battery or Windows BSODs on me. Once I am finished booting the machine is stable, Go figure.

I wonder if the BIOS is able to recognized various models of Dell 130W chargers. I have seen on fleabay a USB-C adapter to use 140W USB chargers so maybe I try that next.

Got the new AX210 installed and immediately Internet speeds are double to quadruple what the old card could achieve. Now with tri-band support internet speeds will be good or using NAS boxes and other resources.

I reset the UEFI/BIOS to factory default and Windows would not boot so I had to install it clean again. Now I seem to be freed of BSOD problems with Windows now that it is updated. Given the UEFI/BIOS issues it makes me wonder of a bug fix is needed.

Some problems still to fix is the power button assembly and maybe the antenna assembly.

I noticed room in the machine for a 7mm SSD and there is a header on the motherboard for a cable so that is an option that can add much needed storage

The header seems to be the smaller on as seen on the Lenovo T580 and T590 while my P52 has a larger connector. It seems that two size header connectors are in use to be considered. Still adding a SSD to my XPS 15 9570 has advantages.

I even found a cable adapter to allow the use of 170W and 240W Dell chargers so options are abundant. The generic 130W brick is working better with a UEFU/BIOS reset and a clean install of Windows.
