'No battery present.' Really? Funny how it's working...

Question

The battery was running out of charge faster and faster, so I ordered a new one. It came today. I opened the back, swapped out the batteries, and turned it on before closing the back. It booted.

Once done, I figure'd I'd charge it, run it down, then charge it again. The problem? When I go to the systray and look at the charge setting, it tells me "No battery present." Funny how it's not plugged in but the laptop is working.

The front light is blinking yellow, not white.

Is there some specific setting I need to do, either hardware or software, for the laptop the recognize the battery on which it is currently running?

I'll add that I found a similar, though not identical, problem discussion on the community. I went into BIOS and rest to default. That didn't help.

If the new battery did not come from Dell or Dell Parts, the computer might not recognize it. It also might not be new if it came from a private seller. Lots of fakes sold online. See Dell's article about batteries-
