Pros/Cons: AHCI vs. Raid On (XPS13 9300 NVMe)
The XPS13 9300 ships with BIOS in Raid ON-mode for SSD-conf. What are the reasons for this? I know RAID as a way to increase reliability and/or performance on a multi disk platform. Why is it default on a single disk machine? Pros/cons in switching to AHCI?
(If it matters, my 9300 is equipped with an M.2 NVMe 2TB disk.)

Hi, I'm trying to boot Linux OS from external hdd by USB. But It goes top slow and It stucks everytime after I log in my Linux user account. It remains desktop image without any other icons. So I read some stuff.. if I change RAID On top AHCI/NVMe could it goes faster?
Other things to know:
• I've disabled secure boot to run external hdd
• I'm running on XPS 13 2 in 1 (Windows 11 installed on internal hdd as primary)
• I'm using external case with a converter sata a to USB type B and then another adapter USB B to USB type C so plug in
• I'm booting using F12 Key the Linux OS runs but after I insert password It won't go on
• I don't want to install any other system on my primary disk I just want to use my ex hdd as a portable OS
If I change RAID On top AHCI/NVMe can I turn back just changing on BIOS setup:
- Turn on secure boot
- Switch AHCI/NVMe to RAID On

Mine didnt work. I put it in safe mode rebooted into bios and changed to ahci then rebooted. Due to no drivers for the 2 ssds it would not boot. I have tried to use the links to download drivers but they aren't there. I have a firecuda 520 with the os and the Sammy pro 850.

There was a write up on the 9700 about the battery issue on Linux page. They used cmd prompt and turned something off and the drain in sleep mode was resolved

I reimaged my Dell Latitude 7330 yesterday with Windows 11 pro
Not only did I have no visible drive/ later on I had no Wi-Fi as the driver for Intel AX210 was missing too
Reimaging Windows 11 from USB stick
Downloaded both the Windows 11 Storage driver “Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver and Application” and Wi-Fi driver “Intel AX2xx/9560/9260/9462/8265/3165 Wi-Fi UWD” then coped the files to the USB boot stick
**Storage driver was extracted to in a folder called storage
Wi-Fi driver was renamed from a silly long string Intel-AX2xx-9560-9260-9462-8265-3165-Wi-Fi-UWD-Driver_HGCNG_WIN_22.170.2.1_A29_01.EXE to Intel.EXE
On inserting the Windows 11 USB stick, I encountered Problem 1 Unable to see RAID drives
Press FN + Shift + F10 (To load CMD prompt)
navigate to d:\storage\production\windows10-x64\15063\drivers\vmd and click OK
Selected the top driver
Once the driver had installed you can then view the Raid drives (So you can install Windows 11)
So I deleted all the drives and installed Windows 11
Once Windows 11 had been installed
Choose the Language and Keyboard language
When it comes to select Wi-Fi it doesn’t recognize the WLAN adapter (As the intel AX201 isn’t on the Windows 11 image)
At this point again press FN + Shift + F10 (To load CMD prompt)
goto d: and install the Wi-Fi driver
I renamed the driver to intel.exe as I couldnt spell the intel file name without at least 15 mistakes!!! and then ran the install process
After the install had completed, I went back to the CMD prompt and Changed from to C:
Path showed as C:\Windows\system32
Then typed: OOBE\BYPASSNRO and pressed enter to restart the Windows 11 setup, on Restart again chose Keyboard language and then the Wi-Fi routers then appeared on the list
The rest was plain sailing and was then able to select a Wi-Fi router and enrol the device

@6700Delluser Hello, Were you able to clone your NVMe SSD? I would like to clone a 512 GB to 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD. However it appears that I need to change from RAID to AHCI (which I prefer not to do).
