SSD Slot missing the M Key - How to upgrade SSD? (Dell XPS-13-9305)

XPS 13 9305

XPS 13 9305

I am trying to find a replacement SSD for an XPS-13-9305

Below is a picture of the current SSD. Note it is missing the small finger on the connector - This is called the M key, if I understand. The slot in the laptop is also missing a place for this. (The connector portion is there, but it is full of a white thing blocking entry)

I purchased a Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 but it does not work, as it has the M key and will not go into the blocked connector.

What is the name of the SSD I am looking for? (I would like to get a Samsung 970 or 980)

Thank you!

The SSD in the image is clearly broken -- the snapped off portion of the connector is likely what's "blocking"
the new drive from seating correctly.

I should add: One thought is that the M2 key broke off when I removed the SSD.

I suppose this is possible, but I do not think it is likely: a) I was careful--[I've done this on other laptops]; b) I put the above SSD back in, and the system boots up and works fine (I am typing this on it now). -- If it were broken off, I doubt it would work?

@ejn63 yup. It's a broken SSD

Ack!

I got the piece out and the new SSD in. Working now on restoring the image I made
