USB running very slowly XPS 14 9440
XPS 14 9440
I have run disk imaging many times but due to messing things up by starting windows backup I managed to need to restore an image yesterday. Running a new image today its taking hours rather than the usual 10-15 minutes. In device manager USB4 Root Router ,Host Router and Intel USB 3.20 is shown as MS version 10.0.26100.2454. I am wondering if MS has kindly changed the drivers to there own rather than ? If they have what drivers do I need as the Dell site wasn't very clear

Well son pointed out common solution to dell problems was take power off, press power button 10 seconds replace power and reboot. Yesterday usb was staggering along at 40Mb sec and 390 to 440 Mb sec. I have no idea what this trick does but it worked

Sorry not replying before but bug in December Support Assist update lead to be being locked out of my account.
The X( was faulty and has gone back for replacement. An X10 did a image in under 2 minuets rather than the over an hour the nearly new X9 was taking.

Intel laptop parts do not have as fast USB abilities as desktop models. My Latitude 5440 has USB 3.2 but it is limited to 5 gigabit speeds while desktop use 20 gigabit.
For this reason some USB devices may not meet expected performance but it depends on the particulars such as TB support etc

SSD performance degrades as they fill past 70% as the NAND has to use less fit blocks which is why it's advisable to have a NAS box plugged in here there and everywhere

Maybe you need to trim the SSD, open the Windows Tools in Windows 11 where you can find disk optimization
