XPS 13 Plus 9320, capacitive panel backlight too bright
XPS 13 Plus 9320
Hi,
With BIOS version 2.15.0 the backlight of the capacitive panel (above the physical keys, providing extra and function keys) turns to maximum brightness when booting Linux. This is dazzling and therefore not possible to work (or at least ergonomically, maintaining work focus) in dark environments, so I reverted to 2.14.0, with moderate brightness as before. Nothing else was changed.
Question 1:
How can the brightness be controlled - I could not find a setting in the BIOS or anywhere else?
Question 2 (for DELL support):
Could that regression please be fixed in the next BIOS update, which could potentially be critical with security updates (and if so, considered mandatory by myself)?
I'm working with Debian GNU/Linux 12.7 (Bookworm), but also tried Ubuntu (not from DELL image) by USB stick. I guess that it will be reproducable with the official Ubuntu version for this model (which I can't try on the fly because I don't see a path to install to USB stick for testing).

Same problem here with BIOS 2.15 running Windows. The keyboard backlight control is also now only on or off, where previously two brightness levels were selectable.

@philsl The XPS 13 Plus has different areas in the keyboard: The physical keys, and above this the capacitive keys (providing extra and function keys). Both have separate backlights, where only the physical keys have a backlight control (at least on Linux, where it is still working with 3 levels). If Windows capabilities are similar, then your problem is related to the physical keys. So apparently BIOS 2.15.0 has multiple backlight issues.

Same issue here - just updated to BIOS v2.15 running windows. Please DELL if this is a bug can it be fixed? Or if it is a new feature, please can you advise how to control (as clearly this behaviour is not good)?

This happened to two different XPS 9320s in our family.

Work faster and harder. This has happened several times on this machine.
It was an innovative feature and now a complete failure and should be an embarassment to Dell.

I am having the same issue. The panel is annoyingly bright and I can't revert to an older BIOS version. When can we expect this to be fixed?

If you have upgraded to the latest BIOS and are experiencing issues, contact Technical Support by clicking the blue "Get Help Now" button in the bottom right corner of the screen. They will first verify your ownership and warranty status. Then, they will provide the next revision of the BIOS based on the “Dell Pre-Release terms.”
Note: Once you agree to the Dell Pre-Release terms, it may take up to 48 hours to share the file with you.
