XPS 9700 - Cannot determine if Intel Chipset Device Software is already installed

I'm going through installing drivers from the Dell support site one-by-one since there are newer versions not being detected by SupportAssist or Dell Update.

I cannot tell if Intel Chipset Device Software | Driver Details | Dell US is already installed on my machine. There's no sign of it in Dell Update System Information, Programs and Features, or Apps. I've gone through the exe package looking for registry keys in the included xml files but couldn't find any for comparison.

It looks like the main payload is a bunch of .inf and .cat files that I could not find in:

  • C:\Windows\INF
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers
  • C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers
  • C:\Windows\System32\Intel

I haven't yet done a full disk search for them.

I have also tried running:

Intel-Chipset-Device-Software_5J88W_WIN_10.1.18267.8194_A11_02.EXE /componentsvers

but it doesn't support that flag.

According to the installer's embedded readme, the following directory and registry key would exist if it had already been installed:

  • %ProgramFiles%\Intel\Intel (R) Chipset Device Software
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intel\INFInst

what about C:\Intel\logs. Is there an IntelChipset text document listed?

There wasn't anything for IntelChipset, though some other folders (graphics, optane).

It's installed now, and is listed in Programs and Features. The install seemed to have "updated" many existing drivers, according to their version numbers. There were a bunch of notifications in the system tray right after the install stating that various components' drivers were updated and that a reboot was necessary for each.

This entry also now exists in Device Manager:
