reinstalling windows 7 from dell set up disks on new HDD

Hi

My HDD died so I replaced it with a seagate 3tb SATA3 Hard Drive but when I try to install windows 7 from the set up disks that came with the dell pc it keeps failing

it starts the install then reboots, windows starts and continues the instal but then I get this error as it says windows is starting services

"Windows Set up could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware"

also the HDD is only appearing as a 750GB drive partition in which to install

I have a Studio XPS 8100, Dell previously comfirmed I could use a sata3 drive but will only get the performance of a sata2 which is fine

Regards

Steve

You can use a 3tb drive for data, but not for boot.

Booting from a drive greater than 2.2tb requires UEFI, which is not available with the XPS 8100. I suggest you get a small (120gb) SSD and use that as your boot device; use the 3tb for data and applications.
