Did you reformat the new hard drive, before trying to install the OS for the first time?

And it sounds like you're not reformatting the hard drive before reinstalling the OS on subsequent attempts - which is why you're getting the "OS already installed".

Unless you're doing a 'Repair' install (which you're not), you should always (quick-) format the drive first, before starting the OS installation emoticon.Idea.title

 

Re the heat:  Other than making sure there's air getting in underneath the laptop, and that the rear of the laptop (where the warm air is exhausted) is also clear, using a laptop cooler is really the only other way of helping keep temperatures down.
