I did that before and maybe that is an issue as far as how I did it. I'm asked for a Profile name, SSID network name, and operating mode, Network Infastructure (connect to wifi  networks and/or internet.) Then there are security settings>Personal security or Enterprise Security Now I'm not sure  which of security settings to choose: WEP 64 bit WEP 128 bit WPA Personal (TKIP) WPA Personal (AES-CCMP) WPA2 Personal (TKIP) WPA2 Personal (AES-CCMP) Maybe whole new issue that when typing my cursor jumps in middle of text I just typed. Not sure what that's about. Thanks
That's odd the system restore isn't showing up. Is there a particular place to look for it on the laptop? Thanks

Hi, The computer isn't under any kind of warranty since my daughter bought it used for my grand daughter. I can take a look at the Dell Service manual to see if this is something I can do or want to take on. We have a Cisco Linksys for connecting wireless in the past. Is this what your referring to as far as a wireless adapter? Thanks
Hi, I did get a message that the hardware can't be installed because the wizard can't find necessary software.

Hi, I tried to connect with the Intel ProSet but to no avail. When I go to enter the password only the numbers show up and it seems to ignore the letters. Appreciate your help. Cindi

For this driver I get an error message "Invalid self-extractor. This file may be corrupted." I did install this one before from a different place since I had received this message before and the person helping on another forum gave me a different link. Do I need the link from another place again. It seems I am reinstalling most of the same drivers. Not complaining, I'm grateful for the direction to go for sure. Dell QuickSet, v.8.3.17, A51
My apologies on Last post. I see they are all one in the same. thanks

Hello, sorry for delay to get to this. Have some issues with my own dell laptop. Anyway, I have done Dell Notebook system Software Utility and Intel Mobile Chipset Driver. Both were on the computer already and asked me if I wanted to overide it being on there so I did and reinstalled. When attempting to do the broadcom 57XX Gigabit Integrated controller after it unzips it tells me I'm about to remove it from the laptop which I don't think is what I should be doing. Obviously it was already on the laptop as well. I will proceed ahead with next things you've listed.

Hello, You asked which latitude I am working on. It is the Dell Latitude D630 and 32 bit. I did install the drivers in order according to the list at the link you gave me. I did install Dell QuickSet, v.8.3.17, A51. When I originally installed it I got an error message that the file was corrupt. The person on the other forum gave me a link to do it from another place so I did that & it worked. I haven't reinstalled any firewall or anti-virus since unable to connect to internet at this point. I'm using my external hard drive to get drivers and any info you may require. ipconfig/all Windows IP Configuration         Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : stewart-b552a9d         Primary Dns Suffix  . . . . . . . :         Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast         IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No         WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:         Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected         Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller         Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-1C-23-0A-97-C2 Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:         Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected         Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection         Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-1B-77-21-3B-8C In Bios it appears like wireless is enabled. At least every option given is enabled for wireless. I'm going to have a difficult time updating to XP Service Pack 3 (XP SP3) since I can't get the computer connected wireless to do so at this point. I doubt that is something I can do using my external hard drive but maybe I'm wrong. If I am then I'm open on how to do so. You mentioned "If the operating system id before Windows 7, then My WiFi Technology will not install". Before replacing the hard drive my grand daughter had wireless. So somehow we had it on the Latitude. Sigh My daughter originally bought the computer for my grand daughter but has fallen on me to do drivers, etc. The wireless switch is in on position on side of computer. The only option so far I have found to attempt to connect is via the Intel ProSet and to my knowledge it's not going to work on this laptop.  When I go to enter the wireless password, I can only have numbers so can't possibly put the password containing numbers and letters in. In "Networking Connections" I seee everything under LAN or High Speed Internet is "Firewalled". Does that mean there is a windows firewall blocking them? I hope I haven't overlooked any information you have asked for. If I have please let me know and how to proceed from here. Thanks so much for your assistance. Cindi

Hello, I just replaced the hard drive on a latitude D630. Added drivers and now unable to connect wirelessly as had before. I am trying to use Intel PROSet Wifi Connection Utility to no avail. Everything I have read has said being an older laptop I can't use this to connect due to not being able to add the numerical and Alpha password of 14 characters. I also read somewhere to disable it and let windows do the connecting. I'm not sure how to do that if it's the way to go. If there is another solution or another way, I sure could use some guidance. Before replacing the hard drive it just was there to choose my wireless network and connect. Thanks so much for help
Thank you, I wil do that then

Should I post this in another forum. I read some old ones that can't post in anymore due to the age of them. Most I have find with using Intel PROSet are saying there are issues with using it on an older laptop such as the one I'm working with. There is a suggestion to disable it and let windows do the work. Not sure if that is a fix or not. The older latitude it seems won't take the alpha/numerical password as long as mine is for one thing. Any help is appreciated it. Thanks

Hi, Just replaced the hard drive on granddaughter's Latitude, re-installed drivers and now can't enter anything but numbers for my wifi password.(It's numbers and alpha) I've read some of the responses and posts on Intel ProSet as well as been searching google in hopes for an answer.I've created a profile, Tried all the different options WPAWEP, etc to no avail at this point. I am not sure if should try some of the suggestions since mine is older laptop and have heard there are issues with the password being a certain length, alpha or numerical in this laptop The laptop connected fine before the hard drive change and adding drivers and wasn't a big issue. I do notice when I hover over the little green circle next to my wireless connection it show "Network uses802.11 g and 802.11n" Not sure if the above is because of the choice I tried in WEP that is shows what the network uses. My own laptop uses mifi technology. If I knew what it is for the L501X XPS. could I use it on this older Latitude? Help anyone, I sure appreciate it.
Hi, I realized as I'm trying to put in password, it will take the numbers but not the letters if that helps anything. Thanks
