I did the same, but deleting only the row Ex_Chk_OS1 from table CustomAction This row infact check OS and if it's considered invalid change the property value EX_INVALID_OS to True that for default it's False (see Table Property for default value). In this way deleting the above row EX_Chk_OS1 the OS check is completely delete and EX_INVALID_OS remains False so that installation go ahead. I checked the same in OA 64bit version, but it seems no OS check is done for 64bit. Maybe because before Windows8 Office Outlook 64bit could only run on Windows 64bit OS all considered compatible with OA. In any case I didn't have a proper enviroment to test Windows 8 combination with Office Outlook 64bit so I can't confirm if OA 64 bit could be succesfully installed in it's original version. Andrea

Hi all, Shortcut retrieval as we all know is completely different in Domino Environment. Shortcut retrival is processed at source installing a SourceOne Shortcut Extention on all Domino Servers. In this way all requests to Domino server to open shortcut messages are intercepted by ES1 shortcut extention that retrieves in real time original content from ES1 repository. In this way it's completely trasparent from Lotus Notes client or from Domino Web Access. Does anyone test what happens opening shortcut messages from a BlackBerry device using BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) ? Thank you Best regards Andrea

Hi Debi, thank you. I'm happy to be on time. My problem was Avamar contents hidden on my PowerLink because IE credential lack. I hope giving exam E20-005 and obtaining IE Avamar credential to unlock these resources on PowerLink. How can I prepare myself for E20-005 ? I bought an Avamar VILT package, but no Associate-level elearning was included because it wasn't in the IE path yet. Thank you

Hi, I'm an EMC Proven professional and I've been one of last certified, on Jul 13 2010, of exam E20-280 Avamar Backup and Data Deduplication Exam, I prepared the exam 2 month earlier buying the relative VILT course. Just few time erlier of the exam I received a message from EMC Education that advice that exam E20-280 will be changed in E20-594 after Jul 15 2010. The link is still available at : <a href="https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-6480">https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-6480</a> . I quote a little note you can find at point C. of above advice :   Best of all, as an already Avamar certified EMC Proven Professional, you will be granted an EMCIE Backup and Recovery – Avamar Specialist credential after July 16, 2010 - provided that you hold a valid EMC Proven Professional Associate-level credential. Initally I supposed, been already an EMC Proven Professional because I was previously certified on other product, that I would have get automatically the EMCIE Backup and Recovery - Avamar Specialist qualification. Only recently they explained me that "Associate-level" attributes associate to Proven Professional means pass E20-001 or E20-005. Now my question is : if I passed any of the two Associate-level exam I'm still on time to be granted EMCIE Backup and Recovery – Avamar Specialist as reported, again at point C. of above explanation link : If you do not have a valid EMC Proven Professional Associate-level certification, we recommend that you look into Information Storage and Management (ISM) training and certification exam (E20-001). <font color="#355491">Click here</font> to findout more about the ISM certification. Hi everybody, some months ago I submit a similar thread, under ECN > Support Forums > SourceOne and EmailXtender > Discussioni about SourceOne with Celerra, but I didn't get any reply. I tried again now, under EMC SourceOne User Community, because again I face a similar environment for a new installation and I have to use VNX storage. I would like to use dedup and FLR for Volumes shares. I wasn't able to find any best practice for setting Celerra/VNX with ES1 I've some questions and doubts about archive folder creation and retention consequences. Since 6.6 ES1 now support directly more storage types and functionality. Customer would like to enable a file system share on Celerra for ES1 Volumes with both deduplication and FLR on. Configuring archive folder : Storage Option tab I choose Celerra as Storage type in order to use all Celerra functions. Max Volume size : default 100Mb . Any best practise about it for Celerra ? Montsh to retain. If I use FLR on Celerra Volume share how it's used by ES1 and what are the consequences ? For ex. I archive today an old email of 3 years ago into an archive folder with 10 years retention, It'll protect on Celerra for next 7 years (10-3) similar as expected with Centera? If I change Month to retain it will be set only for next new volumes or it will modifiy retention of old volumes on Celerra ? What happens if I decrise retention ? What happens if I increse retention ? If customer change mind about retention and wanted to delete old data on Celerra still in retention how they can do it ? If I set 0 Month that generally should mean "no retention" what's the real behavior/consequence on Cellera/VNX with FLR enabled ? Large content tab In order to use dedup optimization I should set to store large content outside of containers. What's the best compromise for Celerra ? Should I leave default value 1000 KB as threshold? What about compression ? Should I left enabled or not ? Celerra/VNX uses a dedup at file level, not at block level, so I suppose it's better to compress at beginning to limit lan traffic and Celerra cpu Any best practice ? I hope in future a detailed white paper will be issue about ES1 with all storage type enalbe in ES1. Till now I found one only for DataDomain with ES1. Thank you Best Andrea

IE9 in compatibility mode both IE8 or IE7 doesn't work either. IE9 has several enanchment vs IE8 and it's becaming widly adopted. I contact EMC support about this issue and a solution it's in roadmap by Q4. All customer are upset so I hope EMC'll change mind and give more priority to this issue for both IE9 and FF4 ( unique browser compatible for MAC OS.X user). Unfortunately EMC dediced to dismiss the alternative Search client plug-in, present in EX, so it's unacceptable for customer that the unique Search tool available is not compatibile with last versions of widely adopted broswer IE and FF. Also Chrome is still not compatible. Next version are always available for developer before they become GA, so Why EMC is always so late in adapting software to new OS,Browser,Outlook, email sw ? The same issue happens for Office 2010 and expecially for OS Windows 7 which had an immediate success after Windows Vista flop. Andrea
EMC Live chat support confirmed me SP1 is supported.
I found out myself. ,NET Framework is not considered as valid during module installation, at least on Windows 2008 R2.

Hi everybody, Has anyone tried to use Microsoft .NET Framework 4 instead of 3.5 version as prerequisite for ES1 ? Does anyone from EMC know if version 4 is considered suitable for ES1 as  well as 3.5 version ? My customer wants to use last OS and components available so they're asking if it's possibile to use version 4 instead of 3.5- Microsoft .NET Framework 4 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=0a391abd-25c1-4fc0-919f-b21f31ab88b7 Thank you very much Best Andrea

Hi everybody, databases partitioning feature seems to be enabled or not depending if you initially install Native Archive db on a SQL Server Enterprise or not. My customer is an outsourcer and they wanted to initially use a SQL Server Standard edition license. If their business with ES1 services grows well they could need to use a bigger archive and they could invest money for a SQL Ent license. Then if they install a new Native archive on an Enteprise SQL, so partition could be enabled on it, and they connect this new native archive to previous ES1 server then could they use ES1 partition features ? Obviously I meant restricted to that new native archive ? Thank you Best Andrea

Hi everybody, my customer would like to use a dedicated single Windows Server with service share roles to be used for ES1 shares needs. Just to virtualize the fqdn paths to share we're asking me if they could use a standalone or AD integrated Win 2008 DFS service. Has anyone ever used dfs for exposing ES1 shares ? Do you know if it's accepted as complaint to ES1 ? Thank you in advanced Regards Andrea

Hi everybody, I'm discussing with customer about prerequisite. They would like to use Win 2008 R2 OS per ES1 server. Microsoft've recently release SP1 for above OS, so they're asking me if they can upgrade OS to SP1. Last ES1 Compatibility guide is dated last Sept 2010 when SP1 for Win 2008 R2 wasn't available yet. Anyone of you has already installed ES1 on such version with SP1 or has already upgrade the ES1 server OS with this SP1 ? Could anyone from EMC check if is SP1 suitable ? Thank you very much Andrea

Hi Ibrahim, thank you for your reply, but your assertion, in accordance to Compatibility guide,  is valid only for Domino ES1 6.6 extension. For Exchange, all version, is exactly the opposite : only Win 2008 R2 is compatible, so it seems in this case if a customer install Exchange on a Win 2008 not R2 ES1 Extension for OWA can't be installed. In summary for Windows 2008 compatibility: For ES1 binary only R2 For ES1 Domino Extension only Not R2 For ES1 Exchange Extension only R2 I think there's a bit of contradiction and it'll be not easy , expecially for customer email environment, to find the suitable combination. I'll hope in the feature it'll be less restrictive because in general customer has already installed email server, so ask them to reinstall email server for ES1 Extension compatibility sounds no reasonable. Thanks Best R. Andrea

Hi MJ, yesterday I've also open an SR linked to above customer about this issue. In the past an SR for info only takes a long time to get replied, last one for instance took a month. So this is the reason I opened a thread too. This time I've already been contacted by EMC support and they're preparing the Domino environment to test everything. I'll get test results in a week or two and I'll report them in this thread too. I want to advice you to avoid you or other people work in parallel with support on same issue. Thanks you very much Bye

Hi, I've some doubt about ES1 and Windows Server 2008 version compatibility if I check inside last ES1 Compatibility guide Ver A10. For ES1 modules in general I found out only R2 version of Win 2008 is compatibilty list. ES1 Extention for Dominio refers to Email Server matrix table 2. For Domino 8.5 (64bit) with Windows 2008 (64) the R2 version is not mentioned. So R2 is necessary to install ES1 modules on OS Win 2008, but is not supported for ES1 extention for Dominio with Win 2008 R2. My customer is moving to Domino 8.5.2 and wanted to install it on a Win 2008 Server R2 version, as their company standard. So if I required to install their Domino environment on a Windows 2008 not R2 I need to be sure, because I'm driving customer email environment because ES1 compatibility guide says so, or at least is not clear about R2 or not R2 version. Does anyone install ES1 Domino extension on a Win 2008 R2 ? Could anyone from EMC investigate on this issue ? Thank you very much Best regards
Thank you very much for your quick reply. I need this confirmation to give a definitely reply to customer. Bye Andrea
Hi Steve, that means if customer change mind afterwards he needs to reinstall Avamar sofware too, or he just loose gsan data ? Thank you
Hi Gary, thanks again for your reply. I think you gave me reasonable and good reccomandations that I totally agree. Maybe 50 Gb  each, except if Centera is involved, sound as a good balance.

Hi everybody, I would like to share your experience, best practises knowledges about sizing ES1 server partion isize n particular : Bin&Logs Work As I know Bin&Logs is only mentioned in Install manuals on which is sized 100 Gb . Work directory partition size is normally sized 100 Gb, as it happens also inside last recent Alinean ES1 sizing report update. That means adding an OS partition more or less 250 Gb for each ES1 server If you install ES1 on physical server it's not a problem because at least you have a RAID 1 300 Gb available to put everyhting inside. But many customer has already a VMWare infrastrucure so asking 250 Gb for each vm, especially for big company could mean also more then a 1 Tb sun disk only for vm just to start and then add all other capicity neeeded for SQL,index and volumes. If you ask thin disk you could loose in performance, but if you asked thick disk you're asking a company to sacrifice a lot of precious sun storage for partition area which customer will hardy find full of data. So it would be good to have some guideline to limit both ES1 partions to what is really necessary at least for VMWare enviroment. About Bin&Logs I notices that by default ES1 create a separete logs for each individual service and activity process, normally size with max limit 100 Mb and circular logging fixed to 10 version. So each different logs could grow maximum 10 x 1 Gb each. So depending on how many ES1 modules are installed inside the same server using default setting you must multiply then number of different logs for 1 Gb. You can adjust max log size and # of version using regedit keys for each logs. Then add some Gbs more for ES1 bin In any case it's something you can control and predict. For Working directory partion, for which is normally required 100 Gb, I hardly notice files in it, excluding some empty directory. It should be used only as a temporary area for local ES1 process, but I don't understand whne it could happen you need a 100 Gb space. Could anyone share his experience and knowledge about this issue ? I think it could be useful to size well ES1 server partition expecially when it's important to  comunicate a correct vm requirements for ES1 services. Thanks in advanced Best regards Andrea
