Avoid the new XPS 13s! Old one is still great, new 9503 is a dumpster fire
I love my old XPS 13 9560, it still works great. I bought a new XPS 13 9503 and the thing is a dumpster fire.
1. As it arrived, the Windows 11 version (the only available option) couldn't even reliably connect to an external mouse and keyboard.
2. Dells driver updates fail like a year 2005 custom desktop build. I haven't dealt with drivers failing to install like this in over a decade, and almost never in a laptop.
3. After three days of buggy driver updates, Windows updates, firmware updates, etc. it kind of almost works, but not really.
4. Connected to a Dell dock (TB16) the maximum resolution of the HDMI monitor is 1600x900. Manually changing it to 1980x1080 in the intel graphics utility gives an error. I'm stuck with two monitors with different resolutions. This does not happen with any older XPS 13 in our office.
5. This morning, out of nowhere, the bios reported a hard disk error. Said it couldn't recover, but then dumped me back to windows.
6. For giggles, I installed Windows 10 on a flash drive just to see if maybe these are all Windows 11 issues. No such luck, same problems and worse. So there's some driver/firmware/hardware issue that limit HDMI resolution of 1600x900 on Dell Thunderbolt docks, the driver updates hang or fail, awful.
Just an absolute dumpster fire of an experience. I tried to use the `premium` support chat, filled in all the stupid boxes, hit submit, then it said OFFLINE. Great.
I'm going to have one last try with support, but I'm in the statutory return window and plan to return this XPS 13.
What a disappointing offering from what was our go-to model for company laptops since 2016/2017. What a total waste of time too. I feel bad for anyone who buys a 9503 that isn't in the tech sector/have an IT department. I have no idea how they'd even get this far. Avoid the XPS 13.

Oh man, "premium" support via WhatsApp is a chatbot without any options that relate to technical issues. I was open to fixing the issue if possible, but this experience is a huge red flag. Returning it ASAP. Good luck to the poor sap who buys the refurb.
