XPS 13 9315 (2-in-1, 2022) BSOD when adding eGPU (Razer Core X Chroma)

Hi,

I've been using a Razer Core X Chroma eGPU with Nvidia RTX 3070 for a year plus on my Dell XPS 15 9500, now I've received a new Dell XPS 13 9315 2-in-1 and when connecting the eGPU to it all works (USB connected devices to the Razer Core X Chroma) except the Nvidia GPU.

It does show a nvidia gpu, however when installing drivers it will give a BSOD (blue screen) with the error Video Memory Management Internal.

If I connect it back to the XPS 15 it works like a charm.

Somehow I can't find any config etc on Thunderbolt, nor on the error given.

Looking forward to getting some directions to figure out the issue as the eGPU should be supported using Thunderbolt 4 and Win11.

Thanks!

André

Yes, I have resolved. To be honest it took a lot of trial and error. However, I have seen the same with a XPS 15 9500 recently.

In the end the solution seems to be to install the NVIDIA drivers, latest version, and after that connect the Razor and update the default Microsoft VGA adapter that is detected. If I recall correctly I got one last BSOD and than it worked without issues. It is however frustrating that it's not working straigt forward.

I can confirm that it's working since a while without any issues, plug and play. Have not had any BSDO since than.

Only issue found, is that once you discconect the Razor and use standalone open apps like Excel might cause an issue. But I suspect this to be normal.

I am seeing the exact same issue.  Did you have any luck?

Hello, how is the performance of your XPS 13 9315 (2-in-1, 2022) connecting to the 3070 eGPU? Have you run 3DMark (TimeSpy) and could you talk about the scores (CPU+GPU)? Thank you very much.

I had the same issue with an XPS 13 Plus!  The only thing I found that worked was to reboot into safemode (without networking support) and install the drivers from there.   Hope that helps!
