XPS 15 9575 cursor jumping to same spot

This issue started happening for about a week now.

My cursor randomly started jumping to the same spot, even when i'm not typing.
I thought it was an issue with the pen driver, so i've disabled it but still no luck. I've also tried disabling the touch screen and even went to lengths in disabling the touch pad. The cursor still jumps to the same spot.

I've done a clean install of windows and I updated the drivers and the BIOS and I even ran a diagnostic on my laptop and it says that everything is running fine. I'm not sure if there is a corrupted file or an update that is affecting the performance of this laptop, but it's been bugging me ever since.

Any solutions?

Hi smilene,

Thanks for posting.  Apologies that your system is not performing as expected.

If there are no error messages after the diagnostics, then it could possibly be a software or driver issue.

Here is information from the Dell knowledge base you may find helpful:

Keyboard, touchpad, or mouse not working correctly

If you still require assistance and the system is under warranty, you may contact me privately. Be sure to include your personal information (name, address, telephone, email) and your computer's service tag number in your message. Thanks.

If there is no warranty, then you could contact our Out of Warranty team to get a quote for a paid service request.

I have had this exact same issue with my XPS 15 9570 that began around the same timeframe. My cursor will occasionally jump to the same exact spot on its own (on the bottom edge of the screen, about 2/3 to the right). I also disabled my touchscreen and touchpad thinking it might be a hardware issue, but the issue persisted with both disabled. I also tried updating drivers/BIOS and even factory reset the computer, but the issue has still persisted.

I believe that there is some driver conflict that caused this issue to start about a month ago, but I haven't been able to pinpoint the issue. I have already contacted Dell customer service and they haven't been able to solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: The issue for me ended up being the HID-compliant pen driver. I noticed that the "pen cursor" would sometimes flash on the screen briefly in the spot my cursor kept jumping to. Once I disabled the pen driver my issue hasn't recurred since. There must be some sort of driver conflict that's causing the pen to activate on its own causing the cursor to jump around.

The definitive fix was sending my laptop in to replace the touchscreen. No issues since.

I have the same exact thing on my Dell XPS 15 9570 (i7 8750, 32GB Ram, 1TB SSD).

Suddenly my laptop is overheating immensely, throttling and now the cursor is constantly jumping to the same exact spot.

It's very frustrating.

The same happened to me! I closed the laptop and placed it in my bag and when I'm going to use it again I find a blue screen that says it went out because it overheated. From that day the pointer jumps to two areas of the screen. The problem is resolved if I disable the HID compliant pen driver.
