University architecture student

Hi I am after a laptop with a really good graphics card and processor for rendering and running cad software this list was provided by the University

  • CPU: Intel i7 (fastest you can afford, these specs change constantly)
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M with 8GM VRAM.
  • Memory: 32GB
  • Operating system: Windows 10 64 bit. These specs do not usually come with a Mac.

what laptop would you recomend

Just my opinion but you are looking at a top of the line very fast system. Considering what the use will be and the highest specs for RAM, GPU, and CPU, you are probably looking at something like the Precision 7740. Not many laptops are available with an 8 GB GPU and you want a system that can render very quickly using CAD. Obviously the University suggest a system that is maxed out with hardware as CAD is very demanding. The price could be restrictive though as this page shows. You can easily approach $5000 for a top of the line Precision.

However this page has some good recommendations for Dell systems for architecture students including the Precision, Inspiron G5 G5590, and the XPS 15 9570. All of them come in at 1/2 the price or less of the 7740. I would also speak with the University professors in your field of study for their recommendations as well as some of the architects in the area as they are a wealth of information. Research this well as this is a system you will need for some years to come.

If you are looking for a laptop which gives good graphics card and processor for rendering I would suggest a laptop with Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M with 8GM VRAM of intel I7 7th gen of memory 32 gb is pretty enough so I would recommend to go  for dell 16.7 inch laptop which comes with powerful features that helps you to ease your work by fast rendering.

Greetings,

I study Architecture at LAU Byblos. I thought about Dell Precision 7730 first. Or Dell Inspiron 15 5000 5577 perhaps? I think the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card is rather powerful to manage "heavy" architectural apps and tools, isn't it? Any thoughts?

Definitely, not only an architecture student but every student needs a laptop if you are really and truly interested in succeeding in life. ... And if you're an architecture student, I suggest you take a high spec one preferably with 8 GB RAM and 2GB graphics card
