Dr. Craig Lowery is a Senior Distinguished Engineer in the Dell Software Group Office of the CTO. As Executive Director of Cloud Architecture, he currently conducts research and evaluation of technology and solutions that enable customers to use emerging information technology sourcing models such as utility and cloud computing more efficiently. Dr. Lowery was the technical lead for Dell’s recent acquisition of Enstratius – a market innovator in multi-cloud management technology. He continues to lead integration and future development efforts associated with the acquisition.
Over his 14 year career at Dell, Dr. Lowery has functioned in many roles including Senior Technology Strategist studying the virtual/dynamic data center, lead Technical Strategist for the Dell and Microsoft server technologies partnership, Senior Engineering Manager and founder of the Dell virtual solutions engineering team, and Chief Security Architect. An overarching theme to his work is the simplification of technology so that it is more accessible to the non-initiate.
Prior to joining Dell in 2000, Dr. Lowery served as an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies of Computer Science at Mississippi College. During his tenure at the university, he also served as chief technology advisor and network services architect. Craig’s avocation of radio broadcasting spans his academic career in a parallel, including his own syndicated daily program, and guest appearances featuring him as a general technology expert.
He received an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Vanderbilt University where he focused on research in operating system performance evaluation and artificial intelligence of performance management systems. He also holds a B.S. in Computing Science and Mathematics from Mississippi College.
