USB composite devices multifunction scanner / printer

Hello,

I see in the admin guide that multi interface USB devices are not generally supported. Has anybody figured out a workaround to get the scanner of a MFC working? The particular device I'm having trouble with is a Brother MFC-7840w. Printer works, scanner doesnt appear anywhere.

Thanks,

Brian

have you tried configuring the Virtual USB hub to support your multi-function printer?

Well I feel dumb now, just had to place a check next to the device in the Virtual USB hub! I thought by "plugged in" it meant the system was aware.

At any rate, it's working now, thanks for the help!

OK, I got the scanner and printer functions to pass through to the VM, but when I do that, they are no longer available to the local machine. Is that normal behavior for composite devices?

Yes, once you share a device through the Virtual USB Hub it is available to the virtaul desktop and not the local system. You need to "unshare" it to cause the device to communicate with the local USB.
