Dell XceleratorTM (Available only on XPS 420)
The Dell XceleratorTM quickly converts video files into other formats and offloads most of the work from the Central Processing Unit (CPU), allowing you to multitask during the conversion process. The Dell Xcelerator helps you prepare video before burning it to disc, copying it to a portable media player, or sharing it online – and allows you to multitask with other applications during the process.
The Dell Xcelerator prepares recorded video for portable devices up to 25% faster while reducing the burden of video conversion on your CPU by up to 85%*. It provides hardware acceleration for DVD and Blu-ray DiscTM encoding with Sonic Creator v10 and transcoding with the Dell XceleratorTM MCE Plug-in.
The Dell Xcelerator is beneficial when:
- Transcoding MPEG-2 video to MPEG-4 in order to copy to a portable media player, post online or just to save storage space. MCE recorded TV programs can be recorded in MPEG-2 and/or MPEG-4 for viewing at home or on the road on a portable device.
- Transrating MPEG-2 video clips (standard and high-def) to a lower bit rate to fit them onto a DVD, CD, or other media. This enables large video files such as 2-hour TV programs (or multiple episodes) to fit onto a single DVD and allows DVD-9 dual-layer movies to fit onto DVD-5 (single layer) media.
- Transcaling High Definition MPEG-2 video clips to standard definition MPEG-2 video for playback on older equipment.
