Are your end users complaining about legacy “old-school” tools? The IT of yesterday often isn’t sufficiently agile or reliable for today’s digital-mobile workforce. Most of us have come to expect technology to “just work,” and to provide an always-on capability anywhere in the world without complexity or compromise. These demands can drive end users to circumvent policies with “rogue IT” solutions in an effort to get what they want-when and where they need it to be productive.
To help avoid the security breaches and compliance failures often created by rogue end users, IT administrators are under pressure to catch up with new demands from end users. By accelerating the migration of end user computing from legacy systems to new agile environments, you can be more efficient and effective in satisfying your demanding users. To address these needs, Dell and VMware have teamed up to offer solutions that deliver for today’s social, mobile and virtual users.
At VMworld 2013 in San Francisco, Dell Cloud Client Computing introduced a broad range of innovative technologies in the Dell DVS Enterprise for VMware Horizon View portfolio to help enhance your IT environment. DVS Enterprise for VMware View updates include:
- Broader array of pre-integrated solutions and reference architectures: with new support for VMware Horizon View workloads with Dell Active System Manager, a new technical whitepaper for VMware Horizon View with PowerEdge VRTX, and new Branch Office Desktop and Business Process Desktop reference architectures, Dell is helping organizations accelerate the deployment and configuration of virtual desktop infrastructure, maximize efficiency and deliver predictable and reliable desktop experience to end users.
- Enhanced user experience: with support for virtualized high performance 3D graphics leveraging VMware Horizon View vSGA and vDGA (currently in tech preview) and NVIDIA GRID K1/K2 GPUs, unified collaboration and VoIP with Microsoft Lync 2013, customers can access rich media, graphic applications, and unified communications from any location and on virtually any device, while providing IT departments with the ability to centrally host and manage sensitive user data and resources.
- New technology characterizations with the latest VMware and Dell products including VMware Horizon Suite v1.0, VMware vCenter Operations for View (vCOPS) and Dell EqualLogic PS-M4110XS Hybrid Storage Blade, and much more! See the Reference Architecture for complete details.
- Extended end point devices for VMware Horizon View with PCoIP with the addition of the Dell Wyse D10DP virus-immune thin client with Dell Wyse ThinOS 8.0_1 w/PCoIP. Built on the latest AMD dual-core APU and auto-management technology, the D10DP delivers outstanding graphics performance, zero maintenance required and boots up in less than 10 seconds, making it the highest performance thin client based on comparable hardware. This combination provides an un-rivaled computing experience that is ideal for Unified Communications and HD Multimedia consumption/creation, and requires zero IT involvement to configure, deploy, image, and manage. The D10DP w/PCoIP can run multiple protocols and multiple concurrent sessions from multiple brokers at the same time, supports 802.11 A/B/G/N wireless with PCoIP and RDP 8.0. Additional PCoIP support is available in the Dell Wyse P25 and P45 zero clients.
“Together with Dell, we are innovating cloud client computing to bring secure and powerful clients like the D10DP thin client and the P25 zero client to the market,” says Dan Cordingley, president and CEO of Teradici Corporation. “Dell’s entire portfolio of thin and zero clients with support for the PCoIP protocol raise the bar for security and performance to reassure IT managers corporate data is protected while delivering end-users a robust computing experience.”
Virtualizing desktops and applications create unique and dynamic workloads that can easily overwhelm a generically configured compute and storage infrastructure. Dell’s approach is to simplify the complex matrix of technologies required for VDI. Dell’s reliable, proven and complete end-to-end solutions are pre-engineered and designed with VMware Horizon View to accelerate the adoption of desktop virtualization. With Dell DVS Enterprise Active Systems with VMware Horizon View solutions you can adapt to and support a dynamic virtual workforce–a workforce that is mobile, global, socially connected and technologically savvy.
