I’m excited to announce the four finalists in the Dell Education Challenge. These teams will travel to Dell World in Austin next week to pitch their ideas and compete for $30,000 in cash and support to launch their businesses:
-
e-Education for GAZA, which seeks to overcome geographic barriers to quality education for Gaza’s children with learning difficulties through video curriculum, where Gaza’s teachers can connect with education experts in their subject matters.
-
Forward Tutoring, an online platform in the United States where students earn credits for volunteering in their communities and redeem those credits for tutoring from other qualified students. Tutors in turn can earn scholarships and internships from supporting organizations.
-
Gyan Knowledge Lab, which sets up hands-on learning labs for primary students in India to keep them engaged in their education and prevent drop-outs. Students pay a small sliding scale fee for the curriculum, allowing the labs to expand to more schools.
- Next Step Leaders, which provides leadership development training for highly effective teachers in roles such as department chairs or grade-level leaders. Teachers receive 360 degree feedback, personalized assessments, whole group leadership training and individualized one-on-one coaching.
The Dell Education Challenge is a spotlight competition extending our partnership with the Dell Social Innovation Challenge, managed by The University of Texas at Austin. Through this call to action, we’re seeking to identify and invest in promising projects by university entrepreneurs working to transform primary learning. All projects in this spotlight are also automatically entered in the 2013 Dell Social Innovation Challenge, for which entries close Jan. 28, 2013.
Stay tuned to www.dellchallenge.org/k12 to find out who will take home the grand prize!
