Today Dell Software was honored as Microsoft’s first-ever Office/SharePoint App Developer Partner of the Year for our first app on the Microsoft App Store, Dell Social Hub. This app enables SharePoint users to view social media feeds, such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and more, all within a single SharePoint site. Social Hub was among the first third-party apps available on the App Store.
On behalf of everyone at Dell Software, we are thrilled to receive this prestigious honor from Microsoft. This award recognizes the hard work put forth by our Social Hub team, the same team that works with Quick Apps for SharePoint, Dell Software’s enterprise code-free customization solution. But more importantly, it demonstrates our long-term commitment to Microsoft’s innovative App Store strategy.
More and more business solutions are being created by end users and not IT developers. The SharePoint platform offers the promise for this type of self-service, do-it-yourself (DIY) customization, but users lack the necessary tools, training and experience to do the work. The Microsoft App Store changes the game and empowers users with the apps and tools they need to extend their own SharePoint sites beyond what’s possible out-of-the-box. Business users can now directly match their needs by purchasing and downloading apps from Microsoft’s public market place, potentially without calling on IT for assistance. The App Store makes all third-party apps publicly available in a single catalog to simplify the purchasing process and relinquish the procurement to Microsoft.
Beyond the SharePoint App Store, it’s Dell Software’s vision to continue to build apps both in SharePoint and the Office/Windows/Mobile space. Dell Software believes apps will change the way businesses work every day by delivering powerful solutions that improve productivity, mobility, and provide value back to customers on the devices they choose to use.
