Accelerating the circular economy to reduce waste and protect the planet

    • Every year 53.6 million tons of electronics become e-waste

That’s 16 pounds for every single person on the planet, every single year. This makes it the fastest growing domestic waste stream and only 17.4% of it is being recycled globally. To reduce waste we need to accelerate the circular economy, keeping products and materials in circulation as long as possible.

      • PRODUCT TAKEBACK

        1:1

      • By 2030, for every metric ton of our product a customer buys, one metric ton will be reused or recycled

      • SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING

        100%

      • By 2030, 100% of our packaging will be made from recycled or renewable material, or will utilize reused packaging.

      • SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

        >50%

      • By 2030, more than half of our product content will be made from recycled, renewable or reduced carbon emissions material

    • Every design decision we make drives towards reuse

      • Durability

      • Our products are designed to last, with superior durability and quality built in.

      • Repair/Refurbishment

      • We make our products easy to repair so they don’t become waste when something goes wrong.

      • Dematerializing/Optimizing

      • By simplifying product design we use less materials from the start, easing strain on resources.

      • Sustainable Materials

      • Using recycled, renewable or low carbon emission materials lowers environmental impact and diverts waste into a valuable resource.

      • Harvest for reuse

      • We design to make extracting components and materials for recycling easier.

      • Evolving Business Models

      • Models like as-a-Service (aaS) offer automated recovery of retired IT for reuse and recycling.

    • A shared focus on sustainability

Together with Intel, we drive sustainability across the product lifecycle of our technology and work within our communities and across our industry to protect our planet. We are advancing sustainable computing to help you transform your organization in a low-carbon economy. From green data center solutions powered by Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors with advancements in cooling and power management to Intel® Active Management Technology on Intel vPro® for remote IT access to devices which helps reduce fuel-consuming deskside visits or asset shipments*, we’re working to reduce environmental impact for a more sustainable future for all.

    • We believe nothing should go to waste

We provide a number of repair, recovery and reuse services and resources designed to keep products and materials in use as long as possible.

    • Designing for circularity

    • Delivering recovery and recycling services

    • Offering refurbished products for reuse

    • Our focus on circularity extends across our company and supply chain

    • From how we build our products to how we run our business and partner with our suppliers, circularity is key to reducing resource use and protecting the planet.

Here are just three examples of how we are delivering on this committment.

      • Renewable electricity

      • We have set a goal to reach 100% renewable electricity across our global operations by 2040, with an interim goal of 75% by 2030. We also work closely with our suppliers to identify renewable energy options in areas where such sources are limited as part of our commitment partner with them to help reduce their own greenhouse gas emissions.

      • Water

      • We report to the CDP water program and ask that our suppliers do so as well. We have introduced closed-loop and rainwater collection systems at our facilities and work with suppliers to address water risks in local areas. Those supplier facilities in water-stressed regions or those with water intensive processes are asked to provide water risk mitigation plans to help drive water stewardship.

      • Waste

      • We employ highly efficient manufacturing and operational processes that reduce waste and aim to deliver waste avoidance in our supply chain as well. Our zero waste guiding principles, and the strategies we execute to follow them, are bringing us closer to a truly waste-free process and a circular economy.

    • Partnering broadly to drive a circular society

No single company can drive the circular transition on its own. We are committed to engaging with customers, suppliers, peers and even competitors (via pre-competitive groups) to identify best practices, remove barriers and support industry-wide initiatives — all with the ambition to redesign, reuse and recycle our end-to-end technology.

    • In 2017, Dell Technologies partnered with nonprofit, Lonely Whale, to launch NextWave Plastics, a cross-industry, collaborative, and open-source initiative that is working to establish and expand the first-ever commercial-scale ocean-bound plastics supply chain.

    • The Circular Electronics Partnership (CEP) is a coordination platform for its partners, industry members and the wider stakeholder network driving collective and converging action on global initiatives for circular electronics.

    • The Platform for Accelerating the Circular Economy (PACE) is the global collaboration platform for key public, private and civil society decision makers to share a vision, best practices, and scale the circular economy together.
