Today, Dell announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Clerity Solutions, a leading full-service provider of applications migration, modernization and optimization solutions. Clerity has specific expertise around re-hosting, which will become one of the flagship areas of expertise for our Applications and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Line of Business within Dell Services.
One of the key elements of Dell’s strategy is to enable our customers to move towards open architectures. To support this strategy, Applications Modernization has been established as one of the core practices in the Applications and BPO Line of Business. This is part of the larger IT Modernization initiative, which is a key growth area for our Service strategy and offers customers solutions to simplify, improve flexibility, reduce cost, and ensure reliability of their applications, data, and infrastructure.
Today, for many customers, aging application portfolios built on legacy technology is forcing them to consider alternative implementations. The increasing cost of maintaining and managing legacy applications and the shortage of skills to support these environments is accelerating the adoption of portfolio modernization.
Clerity’s capabilities will enable Dell Services to help customers reduce the cost of transitioning business-critical applications and data from legacy computing systems and onto more modern architectures, including the cloud.
Clerity’s unique re-hosting solution makes it easier for customers to move applications off proprietary, legacy computing architectures into the new IT environment of their choice. By automating this unique approach to IT modernization through its UniKix offering, Clerity helps customers minimize the need to retest systems and retrain IT personnel—which results in overall cost and time savings.
The combination of Clerity’s application modernization solutions and Dell’s Applications Services and Enterprise Infrastructure capabilities will enable us to provide a more complete IT modernization solution to help customers simplify the transition of business-critical applications as well as data off dated, legacy computing systems onto more modern architectures—including the cloud.
As is evident from our FY12 financial results, our Services business played a key role in driving new growth opportunities for Dell globally. The Applications and BPO organization is at the core of Dell’s solutions transformation.
We are more committed than ever to developing and investing in innovative solutions that deliver greater value and better outcomes for our customers. Today’s announcement is an important step in building the best possible portfolio of Applications Modernization capabilities that our customers continue to prioritize.
