Dell data center deployment cuts Amerijet facility costs by 60%

Amerijet logoAmerijet, a growing cargo airline based out of Ft. Lauderdale, recently looked to Dell to help them deploy a converged data center, a solution delivered by Dell combining servers, storage, networking, and management into a converged system that could help propel their business forward, giving them real customer service gains. Providing top customer service to destinations globally is key to Amerijet keeping and winning new business. Amerijet needed a complete infrastructure that would support their goal of “customer service successes.”

Amerijet’s existing data center had several limitations where Dell was able to provide a solution offering a clear business impact. Amerijet’s network was limited by a 1 Gigabit Ethernet backbone. In the new facility, Dell provided greater speed and efficiency by providing the 8024F rack-based switch and an M8024-k blade module switch for a 10 Gigabit Ethernet backbone. Jennifer Torlone, Senior Director, Technology and Information Services stated that they “upgraded their network to 10 Gigabit Ethernet to enable an infrastructure that we can easily scale for the future.” This gave them the confidence in having the switching ability to keep up with rapidly expanding business requirements. It also met Amerijet’s requirements for an overall converged solution that would help them not have to rethink through their entire existing IT investment at each new stage of business growth.

One other issue Amerijet faced was the consumer-level networking equipment that had “multiplied like cockroaches.” Amerijet was about to implement a new IP telephony solution so they needed a power-over-Ethernet solution giving them VLAN voice, video and other network traffic which they wouldn’t be able to do with consumer-grade gear. Instead, Amerijet upgraded to the higher performing Dell 5548P switches which allowed them to deliver reports more quickly while reducing facility costs by 60%.

The entire converged infrastructure has delivered a significant, immediate ROI to Amerijet’s business Torlone states “We can get planes in the air faster and meet more customs cutoff times for freight clearance with our new Dell infrastructure. That means people don’t have to wait an extra day to receive their shipment. For us, it means more customer service successes.”
