Dell Returns to SXSWedu to Highlight Tech, Learning and the Student Voice

Dell is excited to continue its longstanding participation in SXSWedu in our hometown of Austin, Texas with a fantastic lineup of conversations to highlight the transformative role that technology can play in the learning experience. This year, we are hosting the Empowering Learners Series with Intel, which will bring students, entrepreneurs, social innovators and district and college technology leaders together for candid discussions about the future of the classroom. Our conversations will explore how technology is enhancing learning and curriculum as well as the importance of creativity, new ideas and empowering the student voice.

If you plan to attend SXSWedu, join us at the following sessions on Monday, March 9 to hear stories of progress and innovation from Dell customers, executives and partners:

Accelerating Change by Personalizing Learning

Monday, March 9th, 1:30 – 2:30pm, Hilton, Salon B

This conversation will feature administrators and students at Austin Community College, the sixth largest college system in the United States. The group will discuss the role of technology at Austin Community College’s Highland Campus, which is home to the ACCelerator, a technology-infused learning lab we featured on Direct2Dell last week that provides access to over 600 workstations for individualized learning and small group sessions. We’ll explore how technology can make learning more personal by forging closer relationships between students and instructors and how the ACCelerator’s environment serves the needs of a diverse student population.

Future15 Session: Unbounded Education through Solar-Powered Learning

Monday, March 9, 2:40 – 2:55pm, Austin Convention Center Room 15

We are excited to present a #Future15 session sharing our work on the solar-powered Learning Lab, an innovation that we’re particularly proud of. Stop by the Austin Convention Center and hear from Jennifer Friday Jones, one of originators of the Learning Lab, and discover how this cost-effective and energy-efficient mobile classroom could expand access to tech-enabled learning for regions all across the world. At Unbounded Education Through Solar-Powered Learning, Jenn will discuss efforts to reduce costs and create a fully sustainable model to bring the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly solutions to expanding access to tech-enabled education globally.

Building a Digital Ecosystem to Empower Learning

Monday, March 9, 3:00 – 4:00pm, Hilton, Salon B

Blended learning is disrupting the old factory model of education in US classrooms. Leading districts are creating effective personalized learning environments through the power of digital ecosystems. Hear from two Dell customers, Adam Seldow, the executive director of Technology at Chesterfield County School District, one of the largest Chromebook deployments in the country, and Robert Dillon, director of Technology & Innovation at Affton Schools, a smaller district in the midst of a “tech renaissance.”  The two will discuss how managing complexity in their IT environments has led to better outcomes for students in the classroom.

Scaling Innovation in the Classroom and Beyond

Monday, March 9, 4:30 – 5:30pm, Hilton, Salon B

Last year at SXSWedu, we announced the formation of our Youth Innovation Advisors, a group of students who would guide us on education technology strategy and provide inspiration for partnerships and programs and support the student voice. A year later, we’re excited to share some of the outcomes from the program while also highlighting the individual efforts of some of our Youth Advisors and other innovators in our network. Youth Innovation Advisors Parker Liautaud and Eva Shang will join Joe Troyen, founder of PenPal Schools and winner of the 2014 Dell Pitch Slam competition, along with Dell’s strategic giving and community engagement manager Deb Bauer, for a conversation about the challenges and success of scaling new projects and social ventures.

Networking Happy Hour

Monday, March 9, 5:30 – 6:30pm, Hilton, Salon C

We’ll conclude the day with a happy hour where you can meet Dell in Education’s team and check out our recently announced line of products purpose-built for the classroom. Register here for the Happy Hour.

We are more excited than ever to return to SXSWedu this year and look forward to engaging with the community of educators, students and innovators working to create the future of learning. Join the conversation online via #SXSWedu.
