DataIQ 2.0: Introducing storage monitoring functionality
The innovation engine at Dell Technologies is humming and it’s not slowing down anytime soon. In case you missed it, we recently announced our next-generation scale-out NAS platform, Dell PowerScale, built to help organizations capture untapped potential from unstructured data.
As the ideal companion to our leading storage system, we also introduced Dell DataIQ, a dataset management software which empowers users to efficiently manage unstructured data across heterogenous file and object storage platforms either on-premises or in the cloud. DataIQ provides organizations with a means to take control of their data environment, delivering single-pane-of-glass visibility into all unstructured data assets under management. Check out our recent blog post detailing how DataIQ unlocks the potential of unstructured data and accelerates its lifecycle.
And DataIQ is only getting better. We are excited to announce a new set of capabilities to our flagship dataset management software. This latest release introduces new storage monitoring functionality for PowerScale clusters. IT administrators require effective ways to understand the state of their storage infrastructure so they can tune the environment and better plan for future capacity needs. DataIQ 2.0 helps IT do just that.
What’s new with DataIQ
DataIQ 2.0 brings health monitoring and diagnostics to PowerScale infrastructure, enabling IT departments to granularly investigate clusters events, identify performance bottlenecks, better plan capacity requirements and meet demanding SLAs for their constituents. This 2.0 release introduces new dashboards which allow IT to investigate key cluster events and determine if further action is required. DataIQ’s unique dashboards include:
-
- Cluster Summary Dashboard: Displays real-time status of each PowerScale cluster, alerting administrators to detrimental cluster events for further investigation and triage.
- Capacity Dashboard: Shows total capacity utilized per cluster over a period of time, empowering users to understand utilization rates and track capacity trends.
- Client and User Dashboard: Presents information about protocol operations, protocol latency and network throughput, helping IT precisely pinpoint performance bottlenecks within clusters.
- Filesystem Dashboard: Features shared directory details which pertain to file access deferment rates, helping identify users/clients consuming system resources (i.e. “noisy neighbors”).
- Hardware Dashboard: Presents a view of the OneFS cluster state from a hardware perspective, enabling organizations to discover usage and activity trends down to the granular node and disk level.
- Network Dashboard: Displays network details pertaining to throughput, packet rate and error rate so IT can identify protocol and network latencies in order to tune PowerScale infrastructure for optimal results.
Additional dashboards focus on DR/Data Protection, System, Deduplication and Cluster Performance Reports.
Built for the enterprise
DataIQ is battle tested and ready for enterprise deployments. A single instance of DataIQ can support over 20 billion files within its index database and up to 70 PowerScale clusters and 2000 nodes. It also boasts a fast search function enabling users to locate data rapidly even across multi-petabyte storage volumes. Think seconds to minutes versus hours to days.
Some of our largest customers rely on DataIQ to support their dataset management and storage monitoring needs. “Dell’s DataIQ brings much-needed clarity to unstructured data. As data lakes and other unstructured repositories swell in size, cost, and variety, DataIQ can provide insight to help with governance, cost control, and cloud architecture,” according to Matt Wallace CTO of Faction, a global cloud service provider.
With DataIQ’s granular views into PowerScale system health and data growth trends, your organization will be better positioned to accurately forecast future capacity needs, optimize total-cost-of ownership and take control of unstructured data.
