New Intersections of Technology and Film at 2018 Sundance Film Festival

Pack your snow boots, get your red carpet look ready and pop the popcorn. It’s officially Sundance season. The annual Sundance Film Festival brings thousands of filmmakers from all over the world to Park City, UT, with the opportunity to spotlight some of the great work in film we’ll see this year.

Dell will use this year’s event to celebrate the continued collaboration between the film and technology industry. We are proud to continue our commitment to our customers in media and entertainment – from blockbuster studios to indie filmmakers – by providing the right technology to help creators bring their ideas to life.

Which is why I’m excited that for the first time, Dell will be the official technology sponsor of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, which kicks off this weekend. The needs of filmmakers for powerful technology are ever-evolving and so is the need for the most innovative technology to power one of the industry’s premier festivals. Dell’s technology will power various areas of the event, including demos and presentations at the New Frontier Expo, IT Infrastructure, marketing and electronic billboards, ticket booths, and theaters.

We’re also hosting The Dell Den, a space for filmmakers and attendees to come experience how technology is changing storytelling in new ways, from our Dell Precision workstations that are powering the high demands of today’s workflow to our award-winning Displays and powerful infrastructures solutions on the backend. In addition to the tech behind the screen, we’ll also have a program of great events and panel discussions spotlighting the incredible innovation in storytelling today.

Among our programs, we’ll feature:

  • Women in Film. We’ll discuss how women of all cultures are impacting the film community. Filmmaker Robin Hauser, from Finish Line Features, will talk about her new documentary Bias and how she is using film to examine unconscious bias and the impact it has on behavior both socially and in the workplace. She will be joined by other women filmmakers who are bringing a spotlight to topics such are women of color in Hollywood and climate change.
  • Filmmaking, now in 6K. Last fall, renowned filmmaker Vashi Nedomansky – best known for “Gone Girl” and “Deadpool” – released “6 Below,” the first feature film ever in 6K resolution. Vashi’s innovative work required powerful technology to manage the workflow – 6K files are nine times larger than high definition! He’ll share his experience as the film industry moves further into higher resolutions and the technology that is crucial in advancing filmmaking into this era.
  • VR for Good. New ways of using virtual and augmented reality have emerged to prove that there is a place for this technology outside of gaming and entertainment. At Sundance, we’ll host a discussion among leaders in the VR and AR space on how these transformative technologies are evolving to help make the world a better place by transporting users to beautiful, uncharted regions of our planet, treat PTSD for returning Armed Forces Heroes and provide training to young innovators.

Bryan E. Jones has spent over 30 years in the technology industry, the last 20 with Dell in a variety of executive positions within Sales and Marketing. He is currently Senior Vice President and General Manager of Global OEM & IoT Solutions. In this role, he has global responsibility for all aspects of delivering technology for customers to integrate into solutions that they take to market with their customers. Bryan’s responsibilities include Sales, Marketing, Solutions Engineering, Product Development, Operations and Finance. The OEM and IoT Solutions Division is focused on leveraging Dell Technologies’ seven strategically aligned businesses to offer customers a comprehensive set of technologies and solutions that make their products and offerings more competitive, aligning to their business goals and objectives. Leveraging a background that spans across Sales, Marketing and IT Practitioner, Bryan focuses on the outcomes customers are seeking to drive for their solutions and products that deliver value to their customers and shareholders. A New York Giants fanatic and committed audiophile, Bryan is also known for his eclectic obsession with shoes and the sneakerhead culture. He resides in Leander, Texas with his wife, Jenn, and is the proud father of one daughter, Lauren. Bryan currently serves on the regional board for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and is involved in fundraising for music and musicians in the Austin area.
