Style, Battery Life and Value: What Makes the Best Affordable College Laptop

Earlier this year we introduced the XPS 13, a premium laptop that raised the bar for what a consumer Dell device could be. Today we’re expanding that story with the new Dell 14S.

The Dell 14S is a stylish, portable and dependable everyday Windows laptop built for students, college, young adults and anyone who needs a device that keeps up with their day, reflects their personality and delivers on the things that matter most.

A spark of color to make it yours

Personalization matters. The technology you carry every day should not only support how you work, it should reflect who you are. That is why color is not simply a finishing touch on the Dell 14S. It is the design story.

The Dell 14S comes in four colors: Linen, Dusty Rose, Washed Denim and Velvet Green. Whether you’re looking for a budget laptop that could be by your side through four years of school, gearing up for your first job, or need something reliable for a personal project, there’s a shade that fits. Each color brings its own personality to the same sleek, portable design because a laptop says as much about you as it does about what you can do with it.

Thin, light and built to last

What sets the 14S apart is not just how it looks; it is also how it feels. The chassis is aluminum rather than the plastic common in this price range, making it solid and sturdy. At 13.5mm thin and just 1.15kg (about 2.5 lbs), it disappears into your bag without weighing you down. For students moving from a lecture hall to a coffee shop to a dorm, that difference shows up every time you pick it up.

All-day battery life, without the trade-off

The Dell 14S delivers all-day battery life¹ of up to 21 hours of Netflix streaming on a single charge,² enough to carry through a full day of classes, browsing and everything in between without hunting for an outlet. That kind of battery life has historically come at the cost of portability or price. The Dell 14S does not make that trade-off. A high energy density battery engineered to run cooler under load and hold its capacity over time makes it possible, in a design that stays thin, light and affordable.

A display built for how you actually work

The Dell 14S features a 16:10 display, ideal display for studying and streaming. Two panel options meet different priorities: a 2.8K 120Hz display for the sharpest, smoothest experience and a 2K 60Hz display for those prioritizing battery life and value. Both panel options are bright and offer vibrant, accurate colors.

Powered by Intel Core 5 and Core 7 Series 3 processors, the Dell 14S handles multitasking across tabs, documents and apps, whether you are in a lecture, on a video call or unwinding after class.

Built for connected daily life

We are all on camera more than ever. The FHD webcam records at 1080p, so you look sharp rather than grainy, whether it’s a remote lecture, a virtual interview or a call with family. Two far-field microphones pick up your voice from across a desk, so you don’t have to lean into the screen to be heard clearly. Stereo speakers tuned for Zoom and Teams keep the other side intelligible without headphones. And Wi-Fi 6E helps keep the connection fast and reliable wherever the day takes you.

Get yours this fall

The Dell 14S is available in the United States this fall. Pricing will be announced closer to availability in each market. What we can say is that the Dell 14S is designed to be complementary to XPS 13 and accessible for students and young adults globally.
