This past week during Munich Creative Business Week (MCBW) in Germany, the Dell XPS 12 was recognized with a GOLD award for product design excellence during the 60th anniversary of the iF product design awards competition.
The international jury commented in summary that the XPS 12 is “quite simply an innovative product.” The award ceremony was held at the architecturally award-winning BMW World located near Munich and included special events for the GOLD award recipients including a ceremony that was broadcast throughout all of BMW World so that everyone in the facility could experience the celebration.
The iF award, first launched in 1953 under the label, “Die gute Industrieform” is today recognized as one of the world’s longest standing and most important product design awards in the world as currently organized by iF International Forum Design Gmbh located in Hannover, Germany. The XPS 12 was one of only 75 out of 4,352 global entries from 51 countries for 2013 to receive GOLD recognition after first receiving an iF product design 2013 award last November along with 4 other Dell products.
“This is a very long process,” according to Joe Jasinski who leads the Experience Design Group Product Design Awards Team, “most people don’t realize that we started developing our entries for this competition last August and were notified late in November that all 5 of our entries had won the iF product design award for 2013, and just found out in January that one had gone on to win GOLD! Kudos to the design teams who seldom get a chance to sit back and savor recognition like this for their efforts!”
The five winning entries for 2013 include the Dell PowerEdge T620, Dell XPS Laptops, Dell XPS 13, Dell AIO Family, and the Dell XPS 12 which went on to win the GOLD recognition. In fact, since 2003, Dell has won 59 design awards through the iF competition—a nice record that places the Dell creative team 28th in the world in the iF design award ranking system!
Along with the online exhibit and media outreach through a yearbook and other publications, all of the award-winning entries from the iF design awards 2013 will be presented at the iF design exhibition Hannover, which will run in parallel to CeBIT, March 5th through the 9th at the Hannover exhibition center. Additionally, for the first time, all entries will also be shown at the iF design exhibition Hamburg located in the center of the new HarborCity.
