EMC Apex Facility Celebrates 25 Years in North Carolina
One of North Carolin' Largest Tech Employers Commemorates History and Accomplishments
APEX, N.C. - August 08, 2006 -
EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, celebrated 25 years of innovation in North Carolina today. EMC marked the milestone with an employee reception, hosted by David Donatelli, EMC Executive Vice President of Storage Products Operations, who highlighted the exceptional work put forth by the employees.
"Apex has played an integral role in helping EMC become the industry leader that it is today," Donatelli said. "This facility's success is due largely to the diverse and talented employees who are committed to helping organizations of all sizes extract as much value as possible from their information. Through the hard work of our Apex employees, EMC is the established market and technology leader in mid-tier storage solutions and is a proud and active member of the North Carolina business community."
The Apex, North Carolina, manufacturing facility opened in August 1981. It joined EMC operations in 1999 as part of EMC's acquisition of Data General Corporation, a major supplier of storage and enterprise computing solutions. The majority of the 700 workers employed by EMC in North Carolina today are located at the company's Apex facility. Today, Apex manufactures and ships EMC's market-leading EMC® CLARiiON® CX series of networked storage systems, EMC Celerra® network attached storage systems and EMC Centera™ content addressed storage systems.
In 2003, the manufacturing plant received the "Large Business of the Year" award from the Apex Chamber of Commerce. That year, the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA) awarded EMC "Public Company of the Year," recognizing it for helping to significantly advance North Carolina's leadership in technology. EMC was also named NCTA's "Large Company of the Year" in 2004.
Keith Weatherly, the Mayor of Apex, said, "Data General saw the potential here and became an early leader of North Carolina's technology sector. EMC has continued that tradition. In addition to the job opportunities the company has provided, EMC has shown great dedication to the area through educational ventures and has truly become a member of our community. I look forward to what the future holds with this partnership."
Apex Chamber of Commerce President Sheryl Bynum said, "EMC is the kind of company every community and chamber of commerce want. The fact that it has been our 'Large Business of the Year' recipient says much about the kind of company it is and the corporate citizenship it exhibits."
Apex facility employees have helped EMC cultivate a strong relationship with the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), providing a variety of learning opportunities for students through program sponsorships, job shadowing, mentoring and career fair participation. EMC's investment in North Carolina schools encompasses the Academy of Information Technology (AOIT), Lufkin Road Middle School's Quality Keys Program and the WCPSS Business Alliance Program.
