We established an R&D centre in Bangalore in 2004. This centre is the software and solutions core competency centre for Dell. The centre plays a critical role in how we innovate for our customers globally across a wide range of IT solutions, with dedicated labs for state-of-the-art hardware, software and enterprise solutions.
The centre houses subject matter experts for various enterprise solutions offered by Dell, such as virtualisation, high-performance computing (HPC), database and system management solutions. Customers also benefit from the proof-of-concept work that the India team does to ensure that our solutions deliver what customers need in their real-world IT environments.

Committed to Our Communities

The way people access and use information continues to evolve, and the next generation — the connected generation — is at the forefront of recreating the world we live in. A vast majority of that next generation is growing up in emerging countries across the globe. Dell™ YouthConnect promotes education in math, science, literacy and technology skills for young people in emerging countries. India has been a major recipient, as the programme began in India, though it has since been expanded globally.

At the start of the programme in India, we partnered with ten nongovernmental organizations to develop programmes for tomorrow’s connected generation, teaching them how to use technology and providing them with access to the right technology resources.

In its first year, Dell YouthConnect contributed more than $2.7 million in financial and in-kind donations, with fresh funding of more than $2 million in the programme's second year. This partnership has a deeper connection than simply financial. The Dell Giving Team is highly engaged with our nonprofit partners to ensure that we continue to meet the ongoing needs of the receiving organisations — for example, by providing green technology to help meet their changing technology needs.

Here are some key highlights from the first year of the programme:

  • Through our partnership with The Energy and Resource Institute, we have reached out to more than 300 schools in six states across India to promote environmental awareness amongst school children.
  • 167,000 youth have been impacted through Planet Read.
  • More than 2,000 teachers have been trained through capacity-building programmes.
  • Dell YouthConnect has directly benefitted more than 390 schools
  • More than 70,000 children in India have benefitted from our learning centres.

Manufacturing in India

Continuing our commitment to India, we invested USD $30 million in December 2006 to build our manufacturing facility at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai in Tamil Nadu — our third such facility in the Asia-Pacific/Japan region. This facility provides customers with better product delivery times and overall value due to an enhanced value chain that includes desktops, laptops and servers.

Providing Support for Dell Customers Around the World

Dell International Services (DIS) began with operations in Bangalore and we’ve added customer contact centres in Hyderabad, Mohali and Gurgaon. The DIS team drives our focus on delivering industry-leading customer support, regardless of product, time or location. DIS provides multiple services to customers across the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, including technical support, customer care, sales, email support and shared services.
