Meet DeepaWhen did you join EMC and what roles have you held in your time here?

I joined in 2008 in a marketing and communication role. I led the creative team for the Center Of Excellence and did internal branding. In 2015 I took a position leading Diversity and Inclusion efforts for India and China. I create opportunities to cultivate diverse talent within the business. I also extend the reach of our global diversity office by promoting programs to create an inclusive workplace. 

What inspires you about our culture?

EMC has an open culture where you interact with your manager and beyond. The company gives you a platform to pursue what you want, be who you are and bring what you have- it is very inclusive. EMC allowed me to lead the way and start a trend by hiring people with disabilities and engaging the uniqueness they bring to EMC.

Are you a member of any affinity circles at EMC? What role have you played and/or how have you benefitted from them?

I am a member of the Women’s Leadership Forum and the Disability Employee Resource Group (DERG). I have been instrumental in launching DERG in India in 2012. I have been President for three and a half years. I am also part of the Global Network Advising and Sharing group. I have benefited greatly from these groups because they have given me so much in depth knowledge and the confidence to lead.

What makes you excited about the future possibilities of Dell?

I am very excited to learn from Dell, since they are among the Top 10 Companies for Diversity, as measured by Diversity Inc. I feel that the new company will give us bigger audiences that will help us learn and create big changes.

What do you think people interested in working here need to know?

We are a people company. It is a very constant environment, easy to connect and open to conversation. The work culture is very established and has lots to offer.

What role have you played in helping your customers grow and thrive?

Internally I have helped managers look at broader aspects of how to build out a team with inclusion. I have helped other employees show their potential. Externally, I have seen other companies look to us to improve their diversity and inclusion initiatives and it makes me proud of the work we are doing.

What makes this a great place to work?

We are very inclusive. We are the big futuristic technology company with a huge opportunity to create and innovate.
