• The processor is the engine behind your computer processing critical information and instructions

• The speed at which your system runs programs, loads pages and downloads files depends in part on the processor. Bandwidth, clock speed and the number of cores in the processor all help determine processor performance

• In general, a higher core number indicates higher speed when comparing the same type of processor, e.g. a core™ i7 will perform faster than an i3 and the newest generation will have the most impressive performance e.g. 7th generation can deliver more features such as power and battery life than previous generations

Processor models vary both in terms of clock speed and number of cores. With so many options it can be challenging to know which model to choose; whether to choose more cores or higher clock speed.
Our recommendation depends on the primary use of your workstation. If you primarily run applications that are heavily multithreaded, we recommend selecting a higher number of cores over raw clock speed.
If, however, you primarily run applications that are single threaded, we recommend choosing processors with high clock speed over number of cores.
Choosing a processor that is based on your workload will provide the best performance for your specific workload.
