Meet Nosiviwe

I live in a township in Cape Town. I face many challenges as a student, particularly when I am trying to study. The family whom we share space with might decide to play loud music. There are lots of shebeens (unlicensed liquor stores) in the neighborhood exposing me and other children to violence and substance abuse.

Coming to Christel House was a blessing. Christel House provides quality education because of the resources and the amazing teachers we have. Many children in my community long to be at Christel House simply because they see the way I carry and present myself. We are transported to and from school, given meals, snacks and access to technology. We also get to do extramural activities such as netball, volleyball, rugby and a homework session. At school, I am part of the debate team and I play the trumpet for the band.
About Christel House South Africa

From malnutrition and disease to low self-esteem, impoverished children can face a lifetime of physical and psychological trauma. Christel House helps children overcome these challenges. They educate, feed and provide health care — developing the whole child from early childhood through early adulthood.

The Dell Youth Learning program has provided technology, funding and volunteers to Christel House South Africa since 2013. Our support enables the school to use digital, personalized and interactive teaching methods, powered by Dell, to assist learners and maximize their employability. Our Dell volunteers also help out at Christel House by preparing and serving student meals, donating books and reading to the children.
