When sending a Fax from a Dell MFP Laser Printer you may receive one of the following errors on the LCD Panel:

117-313/117-323/117-324/117-325/001-326/117-329/117-354/117-355/117-356/117-357/117-358/117-359/117-360

These errors normally occur when the printer is unable to send information down the telephone line. This can be caused by poor line quality, please rule out issues with the line by trying the fax on a separate line, if possible. If you are unable to test on another line please ensure that the line quality working correctly and there is no interference or distortion when making phone calls.

NOTE: Please ensure that you are using an analogue (
PSTN ) phone line and that it has been set up to send/receive faxes. If you are using a digital (PBX ) line you will have to speak to your system administrator if issue persists after carrying out the diagnostics listed below.

If you receive one of these errors please try the following steps:

1. Disconnect fax cable and check for damage to the end of the Fax Cable.

2. Restart printer with fax cable disconnected, if error clears try KG cable and phone socket if possible.

3. On the printer push the menu button

-> Scroll down (with down arrow) to 'System' and select (with tic button)

-> Scroll down to 'admin menu' and select

-> scroll down to 'fax settings' and select

-> scroll down to 'RCV Mode' and select 'FAX'

-> Scroll down to 'Line type' and ensure it is set to the correct line type- either PBX or PSTN depending on your internal set-up.

-> Scroll down to 'remote RCV' and turn off

-> Scroll down to 'Set Fax Frwrd' and turn off

-> Scroll down to 'ECM' and turn off

-> Scroll down to 'modem speed' and select - reduce modem speed to 9.6kbps

-> Go back to main menu and try re-sending fax.


4. If you receive the 117-XXX error again please Reset Fax defaults from C.E mode.

-> To enter C.E mode hold left, right and menu buttons while turning printer on.

-> Enter default Password - Up, Up, Enter.

-> Select Fax Scanner Diag

-> Select Backup Data

-> Select All clear.


5. Try Re-sending the fax.

6. If error recurs please call into Dell Technical Support.
