Why Do I Receive A Critical Error When Attempting to Install the Microsoft ActiveSync Software on my Dell System? - KB Article - 119824

Change the McAfee Firewall Settings

To change the McAfee Firewall settings so that you can install the Microsoft ActiveSync software, perform the following steps:

  1. Double-click the McAfee VirusScan icon by your system clock.
    The VirusScan window appears.

  2. In the Internet Traffic box, click to select the level of Firewall security desired.


NOTE:The different levels of VirusScan security are as follows:

Block All: Will not allow any programs to access the Internet.

Filter: You will be prompted to approve or reject any programs that are requesting Internet access.

Allow All Traffic: This option allows all programs to access the Internet.
This setting also disables the protection features of McAfee Firewall.

  1. After making your selection, click the x in the upper-right corner to close the VirusScan window and save the desired changes.

After the changes have been made to the Firewall settings, you may proceed with the installation of the ActiveSync software.


NOTE:Once installation is complete, it is recommended that the Firewall settings be changed back to their previous settings.
To change the settings, repeat steps 1-3 listed above.
