PowerEdge Diagnostics reports This device cannot start when a tape drive attached to LSI U320 single channel PCIe controller while running Server 2003 - PSQN 19032

PowerEdge Diagnostics reports "This device cannot start" when a tape drive attached to LSI U320 single channel PCIe controller on a system running Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003.

PowerEdge Diagnostics(PEdiags) reports the error message This device cannot start and no tests are available on a system running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with a tape drive attached to a LSI U320 single channel PCIe controller. The diagnostics will not work with tape drives on the LSI20320 u320 PCIe single channel SCSI controller when using the storport driver that is installed using DSA.

This affects systems running Windows Server 2003 SP1 &SP2 (x86 & x86-64). Support is fully functional under Linux.
NOTE: Support for storport drivers in the PEdiags should be available in the fourth quarter of 2007.

Use the vendor-supplied diagnostics for tape drives connected to a LSI U320 PCIe single-channel controller.

For diagnostic support when attached to the LSI U320 PCIe single-channel controller, use the vendor-supplied diagnostic tools found on Dell Support. These include the following:
  • Quantum devices can use xTALK.
  • IBM devices will be able to use ITDT, which will be available in Q2 2007.
  • Tandberg drives will use the vendor-supplied diagnostics TDKit, available in Q2 2007.
